Pakistan Will Add 60,000 Troops to Patrol Afghan Border

That's around 500 million $ per year extra burden on budget .

There has been cross border firing from ANA on Pakistani construction troops during construction of wall and ditch. The paramilitary (FC) has already doubled in strength in KPK and Baluchistan, 2 division FC strength almost in both provinces, this news is a bit late. CPEC routes have to be secured. An imminent issue is securing Iranian border, after Durand line. Local recruiting (levies) is helpful since it roots out militants hiding among sympathizing brainwashed or illiterate locals.

Those advocating cameras, satellites, UCAV's etc are not counting the chase factor involved inside caves and the tunnel networks. Probably after the wall has been constructed, and gaps plugged, then cameras and other monitoring systems can be installed.

OK think what you want, I am only writing for my Pakistani members!

In retrospect, we have “lost” on this front as well.

How? cutting off the flow of illegal goods smuggled into Pakistan from Afghanistan alone will be worth Millions more to the economy, then the cost not to mention Indians are spending Millions to stay in Afghanistan

ParaMilitary forces fall under the orders of Interior Ministry. Its time that GHQ concentrates elsewhere after clearing KPK and the Government takes over the secured towns.

In other words a Pakistani on American payroll.

Waste of lives & national tax payers money.

They could achieve the same by deploying modern technology in boarder areas. 1 Military grade satellite, 5 Burraq UCAVs at a time in the Air from different parts of western boarder, Automated drone Machine guns manned by security personals far away from boarder along with thousands of CCTV cameras(they are quite cheap now a days), infrared motion detectors every 2 kilometers & if possible, pass the electricity to the newly installed fence. A soldier's life ain't that cheap. Our Generals are totally naive & ruthless.

What you have suggested should go along with a fence. Try to understand the significance of the fence. It is not only meant to deter Afghan Taliban to enter Pakistan. It is also sending a message to the US/NATO and Afghans that this is our territory. Remember that US/NATO and Afghans are disputing this territory.

This is not a waste of resources. Territorial integrity and security cannot be expressed in monetary values. It is something which should have been done long ago.

The money would be better utilized to create deterrence at sub conventional level. Internal vulnerabilities of enemy nations must be exploited to the extent that they raise the white flag and back off.
