Says air strike was unlawful, unjustified and unacceptable; says if everyone accepted the US logic, the world would become a jungle

Pakistan on Tuesday strongly condemned the US air strike that killed Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in Balochistan and warned that it could have serious repercussion for the Pak-US ties.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday he said: “There will be law of jungle in the world if we accept the US logic.”

He questioned why Mullah Akhtar Mansour, who had also travelled to UAE, Afghanistan and Iran, was attacked inside Pakistan.

“I reiterate our stance that Pakistan strongly condemns this drone attack. The excuse US presented to the world about the strike was unlawful, unjustified and unacceptable,” he said.

“It is an attack on Pakistan’s sovereignty and violation of the United Nations charter and international laws,” he said.

The interior minister deplored the US threat of launching more attacks on the Pakistani territory.

He accused the US of adopting double standards, saying that there are people who are sitting in the west as well as across the border and launching attacks on Pakistan, but they were never targeted by the US.

He rejected the impression that Mullah Akhtar Mansour had the backing of Pakistan.

“If Pakistan was extending any support to Mullah Akhtar Mansour, why was he travelling alone in Balochistan, he said.

“The United States should decide what kind of policy it wants to pursue in our region. If Mullah Akhtar Mansour was such a threat to US troops, why was he leading peace talks in Murree in the presence of American and Chinese observers,” he said.

The interior minister said that dialogue is the only way forward to restore peace in the region

Pakistan, he said, will give a clear statement of its stance about the drone strikes once Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returns home.

The prime minister will hold a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the matter and prepare a response.

The interior minister revealed that he had ordered the cancellation of CNICs of Wali Muhammad and thousands of others after being told by intelligence agencies about their Afghan roots.

He said that Pakistan will officially confirm the death of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in a US drone strike after receiving DNA reports.

“A family member has requested the Pakistani government to hand over Mullah Mansour’s body. We have conducted his DNA test. As soon as DNA results are received, we will share it with media,” he said.

He said Pakistan had no scientific evidence to confirm that Mullah Mansour was dead.

He said that a car carrying two men was targeted in a remote region of Balochistan on Saturday.

Both the bodies were charred beyond recognition, he said, adding that the driver’s body was identified by his family members residing in Pakistan.

The second body of Wali Muhammad could not be identified as Mullah Akhtar Mansour was an Afghani.

Nisar said that the US officially informed Pakistan of the attack on Mullah Mansour seven hours after the incident.

The FC and other security agencies reached the scene and found the wreck of the car and a passport.

I wish conducting a relatively short, impactful press conference was possible for our leaders.

These rants, delivered in the most unconvincing tone imaginable, don't inspire much confidence, especially when the military (with a DG ISPR eager to tweet things, even things not sanctioned by the elected govt) is as quiet as a mouse.

Not very different from the typical govt statements that have been used to "officially denounce" drone strikes for half a decade.

At any rate, action speak louder than words. Let's see if any institution in this country isn't up for sale.

What is the right way now?

Mark targets in Afghanistan and bomb them out via PAF. Be it any Building of Afghan Government, be it embassy of India, be it military base of United States or a random bunker at random location. Pakistan must hit targets across the borders other wise there will be no peace.

Lets fight war against terror in ''American way'' ..................

If you have a suicide wish, there are easier ways to commit suicide.. than declaring a war on superpower and a regional power.

You don't need to declare war on the States to effectively contain it. There are many covert and overt means to manipulate the leverage we have in the relationship --- a country has to create the perception that the cost of losing it as an ally is detrimental to US policy goals in the region. It's not impossible.

Just like India wouldn't dare confront China in all out war...

PAF Bombing Indian embassy , US military base and Afghan government building, is declaring war on these 3 states.

One does not have to imagine, what will happen to Pakistan after this, does one.

If Pakistan really means what it says about its sovereignty, it would take concrete steps beyond words.

At a minimum, recall your ambassador.

Or stop housing terrorists! Then people will take your sovereignty seriously. If you are complicit in housing them then you are state sponsor of terror, if you didn't know about them then you are incompetent.

What are you talking about?

What I am saying is that there are ways to manipulate the balance of leverage that exists between the US-Pakistan relationship. The tragedy is that our leaders have been unable to effectively manage it, allowing the US not just to have the upper hand (which is expected) but to totally monopolise it.

Just like India wouldn't opt for a direct open confrontation with China (because China would inflict disproportionate damage) --- Pakistan will obviously not opt for war with the US. That is an obvious and absurd observation.

How can we stop housing them when India and Afghanistan continue to house/fund/support them? It's a two-way street.

All countries need to stop it, together. It will be interesting to see Afghanistan's capabilities after Uncle Sam leaves. Similarly, the US is well aware of India's support to various terrorist groups in the region but doesn't publicise it much because of their current policy of propping up India as a counterweight to China.

That's what happen's, when you jump into a conversation. My post is in relation to what that Tipu guy has written.

Coming to your point, Pakistan never had much leverage over US, but recently that has decreased even further, which can be seen in the way, US treating Pakistan.

US has blocked $470 million for Pakistan's F-16s.
She has blocked $900 Million for Pakistan CSF.
She has restarted drone strikes, this is time outside Waziristan.

Now the reason's for this are .

US has very few troops remaining in Afghanistan, they do not require too many resources to be shipped through Pakistan.

Pakistan has been unable to convince Taliban to join peace talks, showing that Pakistan does not hold much leverage over Taliban either, at the same time, it does not want to take offensive action against them.

The only time, Pakistan had little leverage on US, were able impress up on US, if she kicks out India and brings in China into the Afghan peace process, they will deliver Afghan Taliban on the table, one way or the other.

Since Pakistan couldn't do that, American are not happy.

I for one agree on the bolded part with you , I think AF-Pak should use this episode to come together and have a frank discussion about addressing each other's genuine concerns as its stupid to be in a never ending state of hostilities.

/Peace

PS : Uncle Sam is not leaving, we have signed a strategic agreement with them and will house their military bases. Furthermore ANSF will defeat the Talis militarily if they don't make peace, that simple.
