I can provide a long list of quotes from Pakistani leaders and generals during 2002-2011 time period saying Osama is dead or living in Afghanistan. You will never see a single quote from Pakistani leader saying that he could be hiding in Pakistan.

They nuked Japan, rebuilt Germany and never fought insurgencies there, in both cases the conflicts were over in Spring and Autumn of 1945. Funny how he doesn't mention Vietnam, that's probably most similar to Afghanistan, and they did leave that as I recall.

Afghan war is set to enter its 16th year and almost half of it is still is under the control of the taliban or contested by them. There's no winning from here on, no matter how much troop levels are escalated, and they can't be escalated by much due to how unpopular the war is with the public and how unpopular a large increase in the war effort would be among America's wealthy and corporate classes (the real power in the US).
