Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday said that an unstable Pakistan will continue to wage a covert war and India needs to prepare itself to repel it.
Chavan was speaking at a book release function where a Marathi translation of ‘Tinderbox: The Past and Future of Pakistan’ written by senior journalist M J Akbar. The translation was published by NGO Sarhad.
The book is part of the project by Sarhad in association with Chinar Publications under which 50 books written on Pakistan would be published in Marathi to foster a better understanding of the neighbouring nation among the Marathi-knowing masses.
“We can’t choose our neighbours, we will have to put up and live with reality ... they (rulers of Pakistan) are unhappy with the fact that our country is progressing as a secular democratic nation while theirs is following a downward trajectory. This is the reason efforts are being made on their part to destabilise us.
“Following Pakistan’s loss in the 1971 war, its rulers have adopted strategies of a covert war. There are terrorist attacks and efforts to spark riots between religious communities is evident in these efforts. We should strengthen ourselves and be prepared to effectively nullify any such efforts,” said Chavan.
Reminiscing his visits to Pakistan, Chavan said it’s important to increase contact between the citizens of two countries.
“Instead of spending on defence and war, both countries need to boost trade. Efforts by Sarhad to increase the understanding between the two countries is praiseworthy,” he said.
Pakistan waging covert war, says Maharashtra CM - Indian Express
Lol, what a hypocrite. Is Pakistan waging a war or is India putting the pressure on us to wage a war? On one side of the coin he mentions that India should strengthen themselves since Pakistan is supposedly waging a war, while on the other side of the coin he says we must boost trade and and relations between the two countries.
Which side do you support? And why is he completely neglecting the fact that there are efforts by India to destabilize Pakistan? Who is responsible in the end? And what proof does he have that Pakistan is waging a covert war?
In the end, if he believes Pakistan is waging a covert war and the Indian government and people believe we are trying to wage a covert war, then so be it, but it's not going to help to ease the relation between the two countries. India needs to help Pakistan with its problems such as terrorism because it's not only a problem with Pakistan, the Mumbai 2008 Attacks can attest to that. Just because terrorism is much more apparent in Pakistan, doesn't mean it still exists in neighboring countries.
Both governments need to put their issues aside and come to agreement and work together to stop people trying to destabilize both countries and worsen the Pakistan-India relationship, which is already at an all-time low. If people like this guy keep spreading the propaganda that the other side is trying to wage a war, all it will do is give the extremists another reason to plan another attack.
