New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) on Saturday protested against unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops at the border, militant attacks and infiltration outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.


The slogan shouting members of JKNPP condemned militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

"We are protesting unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops at the border, sending of infiltrators and attacks by militants at various places. We strongly condemn it," said JKNPP leader Harsh Dev Singh.

However, the police prevented protesters from going to the Pakistan High Commission by detaining them and taking them away.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier told Parliament that three militants who killed seven people and attacked a police station in Punjab came from Pakistan.Security forces also captured a Pakistani militant alive in Kashmir after he attacked a BSF convoy and killed two soldiers.

Kupwara encounter: Firing between militants, security forces underway; 2 jawans injured | Zee News

Srinagar: Two jawans are reportedly injured in Tangdhar sector near LOC in Kupwara district of North Kashmir after a fierce gunbattle broke between militants and security forces on Saturday evening.

Acting on a tip off about presence of suspected terrorists here the security forces launched a search operation, as per news agency ANI.

The target area has been cordoned off and a fierce exchange of firing is going on.

"Troops confronted a group of militants moving close to the LoC," PTI quoted an Army official as saying.

The militants were asked to surrender but they opened fire, he said, adding that the troops retaliated and an encounter started. "The gunbattle was going on when the last reports came in," he said.

He further said, "There was no immediate report of any casuality on either side."

The officer added that it was not immediately known whether the militants were trying to sneak into this side from across the border.

An Army jawan was killed in an overnight gunbattle with militants in Tangdhar sector near the Line of Control (LoC). Two others were reportedly injured.

“One jawan made the supreme sacrifice while two others were injured in the operation against militants in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district,” an Army official said.

The encounter between the security forces and militants broke out on Saturday near Ragni post.

Army foils infiltration bid

The Army foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Keran sector in Kupwara district.Troops noticed a group of militants trying to sneak into this side from across the LoC at Jumagund Nar in Keran sector, an Army officer said.

Pakistan violated ceasefire 192 times in J&K this year: Govt

Pakistan violated ceasefire 192 times along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir till July 26 this year, government told Lok Sabha today, adding that measures have been put in place for "immediate and effective retaliation" to such provocations.

The House was also informed that the Centre proposes to have a provision for giving Rs 5 lakh compensation, in addition to what the state government pays, to the families of those who get killed in firing from across the border.

In 2015 till July 26, there were 192 ceasefire violations along the International Border in J&K which resulted in death of three civilians and one BSF personnel, Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said in a written reply.

22 people were injured while 7,110 persons were temporarily affected and 50 houses were damaged, he said.

Last year, there were 430 ceasefire violations that killed 14 people, including 12 civilians and two BSF personnel, besides affecting 2.08 lakh people, Chaudhary said.

There were 148 ceasefire violations that killed two BSF personnel in 2013. In 2012, as many as 21 such violations were witnessed that killed one civilian and two BSF personnel, the Minister said.

In the past few days also, there have been ceasefire violations on the J&K border.

To check ceasefire violations and ensure safety of people, the government has put in place various measures including "immediate and effective retaliation by BSF personnel" to instances of unprovoked firing and ceasefire violations.

"Diplomatically, India has repeatedly emphasised, including at the highest level, the need for Pakistan to uphold the sanctity of the Line of Control (LC) and abide by the ceasefire commitment of 2003 along the International Border and LC," he said.

Srinagar: Two militants were on Tuesday killed in a fierce gunbattle with security forces during an overnight operation in Pulwama district of south Kashmir that left a policeman injured. The encounter also triggered protests in the area with some youths pelting stones at the security forces.

Police said the two militants were killed in the paddy fields between Ratnipora and Naru villages, where they were trapped by the search parties early this morning. They said a policeman was also injured in the firefight and was taken to hospital.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is awaited as the search operation is still going on, the police said.

Acting on specific input about the presence of militants in Ratnipora area of the district, a joint team of police and army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation late yesterday.

As the search operation was on, the hiding militants fired upon the security forces. The forces retaliated triggering an encounter, police said.

The gunbattle stopped late last night but resumed this morning and ended with the killing of both the militants.

Meanwhile, some youth staged protests in the surrounding areas of Rantipora this morning after the encounter resumed.

According to the police, some youth in the surrounding area of the encounter site engaged in minor stone pelting on the security forces.

The protests were going on when the last reports came in, police said, adding no one was injured in the clashes.

Pak lodges protest with India over killing of woman | Zee News

Islamabad: Pakistan today summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner here and lodged a protest over the killing of a woman in alleged firing by Indian troops across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.

Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said in statement that a 28-year old woman was killed in the firing.

Deputy High Commissioner of India J P Singh was summoned to the Foreign Office today and a protest was lodged over the killing of the woman.

"(She) was shot in her belly by Indian troops at LoC in Jandrot Sector on 8 August...She succumbed to her injuries today," the Pakistan Foreign Office alleged.

The Foreign Office alleged that Indian security forces had committed 37 and 24 "ceasefire violations" on the LoC and the Working Boundary in July and August respectively.

"Pakistan expressed its deep concern at the continuous unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian side at the LoC and the Working Boundary," it said.

The Pakistan Army fired at Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri districts, an official said on Wednesday.

“The Pakistan Army used 120 mm. mortars and automatics to target our positions in Poonch sector of the LoC yesterday (Tuesday),” Defence Ministry spokesman Col. Manish Mehta said..

Pakistan shelling started at 9 p.m. on Tuesday and continued till 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

“In Balakote sector of the LoC in Rajouri district, the Pakistan Army used 60 mm. mortars and automatics to target our positions,” he said.

Shelling in this sector started at 9.15 p.m. on Tuesday and was on till 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

At both the positions, Indian troops retaliated effectively using same calibre weapons. No casualty or damage has been so far reported from the Indian side, he added.

India needs to show its 'strength' to Pakistan: Shiv Sena | Zee News

New Delhi: Following the recent spate of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday said India needs to show its strength to the neighbouring nation.

"India is only responding to the ceasefire violations by Pakistan. If we have the strength, then where is it hidden? We need to show our strength to Pakistan," said Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.

His remraks came after Pakistani troops resorted to heavy overnight shelling in Poonch and Balakote sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

The firing started in Poonch at 9 pm and continued till four in the morning, while in Balakot sector it began at 9.15 pm and lasted till 1.30 am.

BSF troops retaliated appropriately to the firing.

Army convoy attacked in Kashmir, one jawan injured | Zee News

Srinagar: In yet another attack on the Indian armed forces, unidentified terrorists opened fire at an Army convey in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

As per initial reports, terrorists fired upon a patrol party at Watourpora Imamsahab area in Shopian district, South Kashmir.

One jawan was injured in the attacked.

There are conflicting reports on the exact sequence of events. Eyewitness accounts said that terrorists were hiding in the bushes near the road and opened fire on the passing Army convoy.

Following the attack, a massive manhunt has been launched to track the terrorists.

Srinagar: Pakistan has violated ceasefire in Saujian sector of Jammu and Kashmir, hours before celebrations of Independence Day begins in the country.

The Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire for the fifth day on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the Pak rangers targeted scores of Indian posts and civilian areas in three districts of Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch, drawing retaliation from the Army.

The latest escalation from Pakistani side is apparently aimed at helping militants to infiltrate from across the border ahead of India's Independence Day to carry out attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, officials were quoted as saying by PTI.

There have been 26 violations of the 2003 ceasefire in August this year and it is fifth consecutive day of firing and shelling by Pakistan along LoC in Jammu region.

Last month, there were 19 ceasefire violations in which four persons, including three jawans, were killed and 14 others injured.

Jammu: On India`s Independence Day on Saturday, the Pakistan Army used mortars and automatic weapons on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Military spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS here that the Pakistani army "resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at our positions" at 7.30 am in Poonch district.

"They are using 82 mm mortars and automatics to target our positions in Mandi and Saujiyan sectors," he said.

"Our troops are appropriately and effectively retaliating. Firing exchanges are still going on at these places," he said.

The spokesman also said the Pakistanis had violated the ceasefire at the two sectors during the night too.

"They violated the ceasefire from midnight to 3 am also. After that the shelling and firing stopped till 7.30 am. Now it has resumed."

This is the seventh consecutive day that Pakistani troops have shelled Indian posts along the LoC in Jammu region.
Two civilians were injured as Pakistani troops again violated the ceasefire by targeting Indian posts and civilian areas with mortar bombs along the LoC in four sectors of Poonch district on Independence Day, drawing retaliation from Indian troops.

There have been 32 violations of the 2003 ceasefire in August and this is the seventh consecutive day that Pakistani troops have shelled Indian posts along the LoC in Jammu region.

Indian and Pakistani troops did not exchange sweets along the border on Saturday.

The PRO, Defence Lt Col Manish Mehta said, “Pakistani troops resorted to firing of 60 mm and 82 mm mortar shells on forward posts and civilian areas along LoC in Mandi, Hamirpur and Saujiyan sectors of Poonch from 1820 hours last evening to 0730 today”.

While Pakistani troops resorted to mortar shelling of 60 mm mortars shells and firing from 1820 hours last evening to 2350 hours in Hamirpur sector, they also fired in Mand and Saujiyan sectors from 0000 hours to 0300 hours and again from 0730 hours, he said.

There was also firing by Pakistani troops on Indian positions along the LoC in Balakote sector from 1130 hours and it is going on, a police officer said.

Two civilians have been injured in the shelling, the officer said.

Lt Col Mehta said troops guarding the borderline retaliated, resulting in exchanges, which are going on.

On August 14, Pakistan troops had resorted to firing with automatic weapons and 82 mm mortar bombs on forward posts and civilian areas in Shahpur Kerni belt of Poonch district.

Pakistani troops had also fired on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote belt with automatic, small arms and mortar bombs on the intervening night of 13 and 14 August.

On August 13, Pakistani troops had resorted to firing by small arms and automatic weapons on forward posts along LoC in Bhimbher Gali (BG) sector of Poonch district, in which one jawan was injured.

There were four ceasefire violations in three sectors of Krishnagati, Bhimbhergali and Pallanwala in Poonch, Rajouri and Jammu districts on the intervening night of August 12-13.

Last month, there were 19 ceasefire violations in which four persons, including three jawans, were killed and 14 others injured.

Firing along the LoC in Poonch district of Balakote on Saturday resulted in three civilian casualties, Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu told The Hindu. Seven injured people have been airlifted in a Mi-17 helicopter to Rajouri, Local officials said the incessant shelling had also delayed taking those injured to hospital.

A woman was killed in heavy firing and mortar bomb shelling by Pakistani troops at several Indian posts and civilian areas on Sunday, raising the death toll to six in multiple ceasefire violations along the LoC in Poonch district overnight.

Army retaliated effectively and heavy exchanges are going on.

Sunday is the 8th day of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which has resorted to firing and mortar shelling along the LoC in Poonch district since August 9.

Pakistani Army resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling on forward posts and civilian villages in Poonch and Balakote sectors since this morning, Defence Spokesman Lt. Col Manish Mehta said.

In the heavy mortar shelling, a woman identified as Nussarat Bi died in Behrote village in Balakote sector, a police officer said, adding that very heavy mortar shelling of 82 mm mortars is going on.

With her death, the toll has gone up to six and five other are injured.

Of the injured three injured are undergoing treatment in Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu and rest in Poonch.

There has been heavy firing and mortar shelling going on overnight in Hamirpur, Sujiyan, Mandi sectors along LoC in Poonch.

“We are rushing to the areas to see how people can be evacuated from the shelling and firing zones”, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Nisar Ahmed told PTI.

“Heavy shelling is going on in the area”, he said.

There have been 35 violations of the 2003 ceasefire accord in August till Saturday.

On Independence Day Saturday, five civilians, including a sarpanch were killed and five others injured in heavy firing and mortar bomb shelling by Pakistani troops at several Indian posts and civilian areas.

The offensive on I-day came even as Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent his greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying promoting friendly ties between the two neighbours was in mutual interest. On August 14, Pakistani troops had resorted to firing of 60 mm and 82 mm mortar shells on forward posts and civilian areas along LoC in Mandi, Hamirpur and Saujiyan sectors.

Pakistani troops had also fired on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote belt with automatic, small arms and mortar bombs on the intervening night of August 13 and 14.

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit to lodge protest over continuous ceasefire violations at International Border.

With a 10-year old boy succumbing to his injuries overnight, the toll in Pakistan shelling in Jammu and Kashmir`s Poonch district rose to five on Sunday.

"10-year-old boy identified as Moin Khan succumbed to injuries late Saturday. With this, the toll in shelling over civilians in Balakote sector of the Poonch district has risen to five," a senior police official told IANS here.

"Four injured are still being treated in Government Medical College Hospital here. Doctors have described the condition of two as critical."

A shell fired towards civilians by Pakistan Army on Saturday hit a car in Balakote sector, killing three people.

Many civilians gathered at the site where the car was hit, when they were hit by a second shell fired from Pakistan, injuring more than 20 of them.
