Younis Khan scored his 33rd Test hundred and his fourth in Abu Dhabi

Younis Khan's 33rd Test hundred gave Pakistan the ideal first-day platform in the second Test against West Indies, lifting them from an uneasy 42 for 2 to a commanding 304 for 4 at stumps. Returning to the side after missing the day-night Test in Dubai to recover from a bout of dengue fever, Younis looked like he had never been away. He added 87 with Asad Shafiq for the third wicket, and 175 for the fourth with Misbah-ul-Haq, as Pakistan ground down a limited West Indies attack in typically benign first-day conditions in Abu Dhabi.

Younis made 127 before he fell in the 84th over of the day, slog-sweeping Kraigg Brathwaite's part-time offspin to deep midwicket. It turned out to be the last ball of the day, with the umpires ruling that the light had faded too much to continue just as the nightwatchman Yasir Shah walked in to the middle. Misbah, who already has five hundreds in Abu Dhabi and averaged 99.77 at the ground before this innings, went to stumps batting on 90.

West Indies' bowlers endured a long and largely thankless day on the field, made worse by two costly misses. In the last over before tea, Kraigg Brathwaite failed to hold on to a return catch off a firmly-hit flat-bat drive when Younis was on 83. Then, batting on 54 in the eleventh over after tea, Misbah nicked a ball from Shannon Gabriel that straightened in the corridor. Shai Hope, having initially moved in the wrong direction, dived low to his right behind the stumps, and the ball bounced out of his right glove.

Yasir and Rahat set up the day for Pakistan by bowling West Indies out for 224 and securing Pakistan a 228-run first-innings lead. Aslam and Azhar then built on it with a 93-run opening partnership. Azhar is unbeaten on 52, and Pakistan lead by 342 runs. West Indies, meanwhile, are sweating on the fitness of Chase, who did not take the field during Pakistan's second dig, after he was struck flush on the boot while batting.

And that's stumps on the fourth day. Kraigg Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood went for their shots, but Pakistan chipped away, striking four times after declaring at lunch. Pakistan are six wickets from 2-0. West Indies need 285 more to square the series.

Another clinical display from Pakistan on the fifth day has helped Pakistan thrash West Indies by 133 runs, and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. With 285 runs to defend on the final day, Pakistan were not excellent, but did what they had to do: chip away, take their catches, keep West Indies in their sights. Check, check, check. Yasir finished with figures of 6 for 124, taking his second ten-for in six Tests. West Indies, like they did in the first Test, showed fight, grit and determination to compete. That they did, but it wasn't nearly enough to topple a side that has grown up playing in such conditions. This is also Pakistan's 10th consecutive win in international matches.

Pakistan target historic 9-0 rout of West Indies

SHARJAH: Pakistan are determined to complete an historic 9-0 rout of the West Indies when the two teams meet in the third and final Test in Sharjah from Sunday.

Having blanked their opponents 3-0 in both the Twenty20 and one-day internationals, Pakistan also claimed the first two Tests -- by 56 runs in the day-nighter in Dubai and by 133 runs in the second match in Abu Dhabi.

No team has ever won all nine matches of a tour in cricket history.

Pakistan´s strong batting line-up, coupled with the leg-spin of Yasir Shah, proved too good for the inexperienced West Indies who started the tour on a sour note when head coach Phil Simmons was sacked.

They looked rudderless in the limited-overs series and despite fighting gallantly in both Tests by extending the matches to the fifth and final days with stubborn batting, they need a huge lift to avoid another whitewash in Tests.

"Yes, we want to be ruthless, definitely," said Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur.

"We set the challenge that we have eight Tests to play (three in the UAE followed by five in New Zealand and Australia). We have only played two. We are going to judge ourselves on the eight Tests and every Test presents a different challenge."

Pakistan fly out to New Zealand from Sharjah where they play two Tests, the first in Christchurch from November 17. That will be followed by three Tests in Australia.

Arthur said that besides results, he wants to see consistent improvement from notoriously unpredictable Pakistan.

"I go deeper than getting good results. I want us to play a good brand of cricket, see improvement in the players and the roles players are executing.

"Those are all things I really take note of and the way we are going is unbelievable. Everybody is improving and settled in what they are doing and work rate is outstanding."

Despite targeting another win, Arthur has not been surprised by the West Indies´ battling performances in the first two Tests.

"The conditions are conducive to five days because the games start very slowly and quicken up towards the back end.

"We mustn´t under-estimate the West Indies, they are a young side."

Pakistan could bring in either left-arm paceman Wahab Riaz or untried right-arm fast bowler Imran Khan while Mohammad Amir is also an option.

Another flat Sharjah pitch will see Shah and two left-arm spinners, Zulfiqar Babar and Mohammad Nawaz retained.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are likely to bring in fast bowler Alzarri Joseph for Miguel Cummins who has taken only one wicket in the two Tests.

Despite the UAE losing streak, West Indies captain Jason Holder believes his team is improving.

"We had some positives from the two Tests," said Holder. "The difference between our team and the big teams is we have not capitalised after getting starts and that is due to a lack of experience."
