ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday telephoned Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and told him that the United States would like an amicable solution to the ongoing Indus Water Treaty dispute between Pakistan and India.

Secretary Kerry said that the President World Bank had recently informed him about Pakistan’s complaint against India on the subject of Indus Water Treaty.

The finance minister said that Indus Water Treaty is an international commitment, and it is the responsibility of the World Bank to ensure that India honors the treaty, and the water rights of the people of Pakistan are protected.

Dar said that he was in contact with the President World Bank during the current month. He indicated that US support on the principles and legal position of Pakistan will be greatly appreciated.

He further added that the Court of Arbitration is the legal requirement and appointment of the chairman of the Court of Arbitration must be fulfilled by the World Bank.

Kerry appreciated the improvement in economic indicators of Pakistan. Dar shared the developments in the economy and said that the government is now focused on achieving higher economic growth.

The finance minister also appreciated Secretary Kerry on his statement this week on the Middle East peace process and rights of Palestinians.

Kerry is busy finishing his accumulated vacation before retirement, so can understand his spending time on this call.

Treaties should be fair to all...both countries should share water proportianatly.....India being 7 times bigger in population and land should get water accordingly..India should get 87.5% share and Pakistan 12.5% water.

I agree with you. Treaties should be fair to all...both countries should share water proportionatly..... Pakistani population livening along these rivers is 20 times more than indian population living along the natural flow of water. Pakistan should get 95% share and india should get 5% water of 6 rivers.

Tali dono hathon se bajti ha.
You can't stop our water and get away without compensating for it nor can you do it without killing billions on both sides.

So does India.

<That solution is - India, the upper riparian, has more rights on the water, uses all the water it wants, IWT is dead anyways>

There! Solved!

Now we have to think about making this solution amicable to the Pakistanis. There's quite a few ways of doing that. Bribing a few jarnails being one of them.

Wow,thats a long list of accusation.

Tell me one thing, how many Indians cheer for any of these organization??In fact,India doesn't support a single one of these.India never came to defend these organizations.Only some separatist politicians from Balochistan took refuge in India. But how about 3 decades of terrorism in Kashmir and elsewhere in India?Isn't Pakistan shielding a renowned terrorist who got transferred to Pakistan because a hijacked civilian aircraft??How about that?

Don't tell me what to do.

One question,who are "You"??
