An armed conflict between US and Iran would be extremely disastrous, not only for Iran, but for the whole region, more so particularly for Pakistan, and should be averted at all costs. Real problem is that both Iran and KSA have competing hegemonic ambitions, which are far far beyond their real potential and power and, further, that this conflict is fired by triple sources/identities: sectarian, racial and ethnic. Both countries leave Islam, which could unify them, in some obscure back yard. US and West are merely utilizing this uncontrolled conflict, to their advantage. Pakistan, in a way, becomes sandwiched in this conflict.

However, at this juncture, Pakistanis shall not overemphasize certain recent tensions between Iran and Pakistan and shall instead think about the larger picture.

And in spite of all that, Iranians could not even take over Basra in Iraq. Contending with US-led forces out in the open is never a good idea because USAF and USN will make short work of any human waves.

Every country have elements who are motivated enough to defend their homeland from potential aggression but this does not imply that the entire country is a fortress of sorts - not even close. In Iraq, Fidayeen volunteers emerged to resist the march of US-led forces towards Baghdad alongside Iraqi military forces, and thousands of these volunteers died in the process (2000 died in Mosul alone); US-led forces overwhelmed Iraqi defenses and took over Baghdad in just 21 days regardless.

A chunk of Iran have recently suffered from extensive flooding and there are numerous elements who are not happy with Mullah regime. Back in the days of war with Iraq, Iranian Revolution was a recent development and scores of individuals were willing to fight for Ayatollah Khomeini but this is longer the case. Don't buy into Iranian propaganda; much of Iran is not IRGC or even close.

You do not understand; US will have access to Afghanistan via Iran as well; and Taliban will face more pressure to negotiate with US in this situation.

US-Taliban settlement is done deal. Taliban will not fight for any country, they are not mercenaries for hire.
