Pakistan, UK agree to bolster defence ties

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: Pakistan and the United Kingdom agreed to forge closer cooperation in the war on terror at the ninth meeting of the Pak-UK Defence Cooperation Forum held here on Tuesday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Kamran Rasool and the British Under-secretary of Defence Bill Jaffrey.

Mr Jaffrey stressed the need for developing a wide-ranging strategic relationship and said Pakistan and UK had shared interest of security and stability in the region and cooperation between the two sides needed to be increased.

He appreciated the role played by the security forces of Pakistan in the war on terror. The Pakistan side dwelt on the steps taken for the socio-economic uplift of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Mr Kamran Rasool said that Pakistan was committed to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

He said that Pakistan was also making sincere efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan because a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the interest of not only Pakistan but of the whole region.

The British delegation also met caretaker Federal Minister for Defence & Defence Production Syed Salim Abbas Jilani and discussed with him matters of mutual interest.

The minister said it was in the interest of both countries to develop cooperation on a sustainable basis.

Such a positive and hopeful message you deliver.

The whole idea is to EXPAND your networks of influence and cooperation. The more, the merrier.

Here's to a close and enduring Pakistani-U.K. relationship. Congratulations!

Make mine a root beer, please.;)

the largest item so far has been Defender jeeps for the PA. nearly 3,000 units.
NO big-ticket items in the pipeline like frigates or jets.
125mm guns for the tanks, C3 systems for the navy frigates, radar's etc.
yearly spend is around US$ 50-75 mill (this is my guess)
UK dosnt want to annoy India too much.

Truth is always bitter and one has to accept reality rather then living in the world of fantasies.

One always expand influence and cooperation where there is one and does not solely exist on statements such as in this case.

So much for building castles in the air.:disagree:

Great window of opportunity is being open.

It must be seized with alacrity!

"Truth is always bitter and one has to accept reality rather then living in the world of fantasies."

Not so. Today we celebrate the death of a key al-Qaeda leader. It is true and hardly bitter.

It also is a reality that must be accepted. So too this treaty. Your opinion of it's utility, however bitter, seems fantasy.

"One always expand influence and cooperation where there is one and does not solely exist on statements such as in this case."

Wrong. It is commonplace for announcements such as this to presage the implementation of a new security accord. What that entails is none of your business nor mine for reasons of security. Having presumptively dismissed it's utility, it's none of your interest either.

In fact, you've nothing useful to offer on this matter.

So where did AQ come in from? Or you did not find anyother option better, then putting the killing of an al-qaeda leader into the equation.

Only blind will accept what you are stating or trying to prove here. Otherwise there isnt a damn thing related to defence between UK and Pakistan other then some sort of security pact on terrorism. This one is no exceptional either. So IMO It will be better if we link it with terrorism and not defence unless you want to continue your harp on it provided with your definition about defence.

Hardly, my good man.

But if someone speaks logic, should I be illogical and decry it?

Your logic seems to have deserted you!

I think you are a military person, you should have known it better, Is terrorism and defence ties the same? Answer this simple question for me.

Also i commented on that there is not significant defence deal at all between the two nations, read fatman sir's post, no BIGGUNS doesnt want to upset india, how does this makes me deserted in my thinking?:undecided:
