So here's some insight into the issues with our UAV program that I've come to know of. Issues that prevent our UCAV with the same engine from achieving the same endurance, ceiling, and payload. Disclaimer: I am not an expert in this area and I am only conveying what I was told.


Apparently a big reason is extremely poor composite manufacturing. So your composites need to be manufactured extremely carefully under very controlled conditions with strict quality control of inputs. None of this happens. Parts are manufactured in open environments with little or no quality control of inputs. The result is parts that are needlessly heavy and are inconsistent. An example given was two identical parts made the same day, before and after rain that changed humidity, caused the parts to weigh different and have different structural properties.


Composites manufacturing is another area we seem to be really far behind in with basically hobby level manufacturing capability.
Since the propulsion upgrade they've gotten closer to TB2's figures, although endurance is still 7 hours behind and ceiling 4 thousand ft lower, but it does carry a little over double the weight in missiles... so perhaps manufacturing quality/conditions has also increased?

How does the Zumr-II compare to the CATS which the TB-2 uses? We need to also have high quality EO sensors

Limitation of composite manufacturing IMHO. Composites are being done in a very desi jugarh fashion but work is being done to bring the standards up. However, this kind of capacity building takes several years to show up in systems.

The thing is I've noticed culturally we really have no quality standard, people just want to get work done but they don't care for quality or don't recognise how important it is, or the depth of how complex it is to achieve a final product which is not only functional but also high quality.

There is a stark day and night difference between how the Turks operate and us, and you can notice it in the most minute details. They are meticulous down to websites, their English SPAG, and almost perfectionists, while we are careless, rush things, underestimate the complexity. Most Pakistani state owned sites it's common to come across even poor English, or irrelevant/low quality images, like they don't really care.

Most of Pakistan UAV's are of the "stable" design category. What would be interesting is for Pakistan to make an unstable design and then work on developing the FBW for it like the Kizilelma - as that type of FBW will provide the foundation knowledge for a Pakistan "designed" Jet fighter in the future. the UAV's are a perfect place to develop core technologies, frameworks and processes that can then be scaled up.

Infact - maybe Pakistan should work on building its own type of Kizilelma from scratch? Perfect breading ground to build private companies/institutions that it needs and the associated trained engineers.

Akinci UCAVs from No.65 "Knights" Multirole Squadron of Composite Unmanned Command will be utilized in multiple domains of air operations in integration with TB-2 UAVs.
PAF will also enjoy the liberty to expand these operations as Turkiye keeps integrating new capabilities.

Another interesting thing spotted during PAF's Official Press Release today was visit to TB-2 Control Station somewhere inside AHQ complex. This concept means that when required, the commanders can directly execute critical mission targeting HVT from their command centers...
