Pakistan requires and need mass transit, I fail to understand why so much hatred towards a step forward.

BECAUSE there are OTHER issues which are in need....Hospitals, universities, schools, economics of the country than 1 bus service that needs to be backed with continuous flow of millions after its construction....the same millions we could put in other places to get something to earn money from not spend on!

SURE if he spent the same amount and got a SELF SUSTAINING system which boosted our economic it would have been a plus point...But in its 1st week already it needed more money to pour in to pump out water - not sure which genius construction company doesnt think of rains and drainage

And for GOD SAKES Turkey came to visit and all they could display was metro? No we dont have any awaam to present to them, no proper industries to showcase - many went bankrupt or are privatized, no groundbreaking science to showcase but just 1 piece of metal called metro that is going to weight us down like anything coz it is not economical!

No one is against fixing infrastructure and building roads BUT PRIORITY and Economics of the country are both screwed beyond reason!

We are suffering ...we have less development, less LNG, less electricity, less gasoline and our car sales recently went up so I am not sure what the use of the metro was....

As for saving public money, so far it hasnt hit that lucky stone!

All the saving would be possible if they made metro AND increased tax on car sale or increase parking fares.....THAT would SAVE money, gasoline, increase the number of people using it and the carbon footprint would come in that too...Right now stat is showcasing something else!

On topic: It's significant that Pak and Turkey have accepted the potential threat of IS. I seem to remember even senior members brushing it off. President Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif agree to improve counter-terrorism cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met on Saturday and agreed to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation aimed at fighting the possible threat from the militant group Islamic State and other such terrorist organisations.
Erdogan landed in Islamabad along with his wife Saturday evening for a brief stopover on his way back from Indonesia. He was received by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Begum Kulsoom Nawaz at the Nur Khan base. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, federal ministers Ishaq Dar and Khawaja Asif, Adviser on National Security Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi were also present at the airport. A contingent of Pakistan Air Force presented Erdogan an honourary salute on his first visit to Pakistan since assuming the office of Turkey’s president.
Erdogan had earlier visited Lahore and Islamabad in December 2013 as the prime minister of Turkey. Saturday’s meeting marks the seventh time he has visited Pakistan in the last decade, signifying substantial growth and strengthening of relations under his government. Prime Minister Nawaz hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting dignitary. Turkey has very recently upped the momentum of its fight against IS and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) — two groups who are themselves bitterly opposed — after a week of deadly violence in Turkey the authorities blamed on the organisations.
The recent raids against IS mark a major shift in policy towards the group by key NATO member Turkey, which has faced severe criticism from its Western allies for not doing enough to combat the militants. The US and Turkey also recently agreed to work together to drive fighters of the self-styled Islamic State from northern Syria, with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu saying his country’s military could “change the balance” in the region. The potentially game-changing accord between the US and Turkey aims to “establish an ISIL-free zone and ensure greater security and stability along Turkey’s border with Syria,” said a US official last week.
Analysts and experts believe the upsurge in Turkey’s activity against IS is a consequence of the deadly suicide bombing in the town of Suruc on the Syrian border, which killed at least 30 civilians.
Pakistani officials saluted Erdogan as he emerged from his plane at the Nur Khan air base. Nawaz Sharif formally introduced Erdogan to his brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and other senior officials on the tarmac. Clad in traditional dresses, a boy and a girl presented bouquets to the dignitary. Later, President Erdogan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a one-on-one meeting to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations, as well as global and international issues of mutual interest.
Nawaz will later host a dinner reception to welcome Erdogan. “Pakistan deeply appreciates the personal contribution to the growth and expansion of Pakistan-Turkey relations under the sagacious leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” a statement from the Foreign Office said earlier. Earlier, Erdogan concluded his three-day visit to Indonesia. He met Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Friday to enhance bilateral relations between the countries as part of three-day state visit to the Southeast Asian country. On Friday Erdogan gave a speech at Indonesia’s National Resilience Institute in Jakarta before attending Friday prayers at Istiqlal Grand Mosque. The Turkish president left Pakistan after about a two-hour long stopover. The prime minister appreciated the personal contribution of the Turkish president to the growth and expansion of Pak-Turkey relations, said a Prime Minister’s House statement. He expressed his desire for both brotherly countries to work together for increasing the volume of bilateral trade and investment through trade agreements and other measures. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appreciated Turkish technical participation in various development projects in the last few years.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Erdogan expressed the hope that mutual cooperation between the two countries would increase in the future. According to the media reports, during the meeting both leaders expressed their resolve to work together for resolving the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah. The prime minister said Pakistan attaches great importance to heart of Asia Istanbul process. He expressed satisfaction over the progress in promoting defence ties between the two countries. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a special talk at the air base. The former showed a video of Pakistan Metro Bus project in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to the Turk president. Erdogan appreciated the metro bus project. He invited the chief minister to visit Turkey and said he will also visit Lahore.

Pakistan and Turkey both have experience of facing insurgency so we can provide great information to each other also may be do joint operations against TTP and ISIS.

Nobody in their right mind would want to get involved with Pakistan's insurgency and Pakistan wouldn't want any foreign military getting actively and openly involved on its soil too. Turkey could ask Pakistan to join its new fight against ISIS, as a token of support. But that would be crazy for Pakistan. We have have our own problems to deal with at the moment.

Agreed, the projects are expensive, populist and out of control. Metro in Pindi cost way more than international average and those Danish schools were a vote gaining tactic. But I haven't seen any thing which indicates SS gained PERSONAL financial benefit from these projects. You are welcome to share if you have anything.

Metro is no a bad thing for big cities like Lahore, it saves time, money and is convenient form of transport for everyone. This is must must for all big congested cities

No one is againt the metro as itself....But against the EXPENSIVE metro which despite all its expenses couldnt even withstand rainfall....Had they put in an extra super drainage system or something that caused it to be that expensive...beating a lot of metros worldwide A lot of us wouldnt voice out soo much....But truth is it isnt even special and yet it cost more than an average metro of any other big city! And we will be paying for it for the rest of our lives...

As for convenient....it would be convenient if the number of cars on the road dropped but our cars imported increased to a new high this yr...So I am not sure whose continence it is...Sure many will STILL benefit...but it doesnt do much purpose if it doesnt span all walks of life....

I mean even the middle middle class or upper middle class wont use it coz they have their own cars...The rich and elite DEF wont! The poor still wont be able to afford it so its ONLY the lower middle class.....what about the rest?

Being costly or corruption in it is not a surprise for our continent as common man has learnt to live with it. Now the surprise is faulty drainage system and that needs to be augmented to withstand heavy rains. its a blunder not to have anticipated this before

Rich and upper middle class never use it but yes common man who prefer bikes and 2 wheelers or families can use it conveniently. This trend is more familiar in developing countries mostly where affluent people are shy of using metros ditto is the case in Delhi

Pakistan might be having more pressing issues calling for govt attention but this is same for all developing countries like as govt are found sinfully lacking in intend to pump more money in health and education sector
