Pakistan and Turkey on Friday discussed possibilities of local production, co-production and transfer of technology for defence-related products according to needs of the two countries.
Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar discussed these issues during his visit to Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) near Ankara.
President and Chief Executive Officer of TAI Muharrem Dortkasli and his colleagues briefed Qamar about the main areas of activities of TAI, said a press release received from Ankara. Progress on existing defence-related projects between Turkey and Pakistan was also reviewed.
The delegation later visited the facilities of aircraft manufacturing, overhauling, and were shown a demonstration of T129 attack helicopter developed by TAI.
Turkish Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz and Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Muhammad Haroon Shaukat were also present.
The visiting Pakistani delegation offered Juma prayers at the historic Haji Bayram Mosque at Ankara.
After the prayers, the Pakistani Defence Minister held a brief meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister Prof Dr Ahmet Davutoglu.

There should be more economic cooperation between pakistan and turkey. Trade is not as high as it should be between 2 countries.

We should have free trade agreement. Not just with Turkey, but also with countries in the ECO i.e. Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Turkmenistan etc

Agreed we should explore new markets if we need an economic recovery. We should explore new energy routes other than gulf as GCC will be the first one to ditch us if we face sanctions. In terms of energy turkey can also help us overcome technical difficulties.

Pakistan lack the funds
otherwise in we can have jv in

*Developing a Mid range Air defence system
*Tank armour and next gen rounds
*Shipbuilding(to some extent we have already entered into this business)
*UCAV and UAV's
*May be we can enter into the Turkish 5th gen fighter aircraft program if we have 2-3billions to spend

Pakistan is in need of a decent air defense coverage, this is how Pakistan will be able to fill the gap between IAF and PAF. I am not aware of Pakistanis strategy regarding this.
