Pakistan to soon start producing commercial aircraft

I wouldn't undersell it as "few assembled Jfs..." It's a proper joint-production effort in that 58% of the sub-assemblies are actually manufactured in Pakistan, with final assembly (with 42% imports) of course.

Truly, less than a handful of countries can claim to manufacture everything from end-to-end (e.g. U.S., France, Russia and China, with the U.K, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Italy, etc moving to partnerships and consortiums). In all likelihood, PAC will approach the 10-30 commercial plane in much the same way, i.e. partner up with someone already engaged in the effort (e.g. Indonesia, Czech Republic or South Africa) and co-produce.

As for 'why' ... Pakistan has a commuter aircraft market, especially in the Northern Areas which basically require twin engine turboprop planes to operate in semi-prepared runways and hot-and-high conditions. These aircraft will expand the connectivity within the Northern Areas et. al as well as between it and the rest of the country (and to an extent other countries, esp. in Central Asia). Similar efforts are underway in Central Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, so the market has potential. The key is to guarantee strong adoption earlier on and to give enough incentive to the private sector to manage most, if not all, of the production and maintenance/support work.

I agree that it is a proper joint production effort but we are still ways from proper joint design and development effort. Whatever nationalistic sentiments one must have at the end of the day we must realize that complete independence comes from having design and development bodies (such as LM in the USA and Sukhoi design bureau in RU). Not having design and development capability in weapons manufacturing arena is like not having a brain. All these factories and fancy equipment can't produce shit without the smart guys. On the other hand, even if you don't have big *** factories the R&D guys can help set that up.

Now US and other countries may be producing all the components but the fact remains that if the need arises they can and the import is just to keep the cost down. We, on the other hand, would be left with dirt in our hands if China stops providing the pre-built frame.

Sorry for the long sentences... to put it short.

1-We are lying to ourselves about indigenization.
2-We need strong R&D dept. which has been started I acknowledge.
3-Even in manufacturing, we aren't making a portion of parts for our craft.

The civilian plane idea remains ultra nonsense and pure rubbish to me. It is just a way for some babus to milk the country good. Even PAC is not profitable to the country in the purely economic sense. But the issue isn't that. Its that before we even attain proper indeginzation in military craft we are banging our heads at everything conceivable. AND FOR FUK SAKE WHERE ARE THE GOD DAMN DRONES? WHY ARE WE USING DUMB ROCKETS? make drones, modern avionics, radars first and then fill your filthy pockets with useless rubbish!!!

My recommendation would be to seek baby steps. Dornier used to offer Do-228 which HAL had taken and done well with.

Excellent news. That will be start of true commercial aviation industry in the country. This is the logical step forward for PAC after acquiring the experience of developing Mashaq, K-8, and JF-17. It is just the question of capacity for production of small commercial airplane but as the aviation city is coming along, such projects would become much easier to undertake.

It would make sense for Pakistan to discuss with China to setup 1-2 Assembly lines in Pakistan , this a short range plane which is quite modern and helps moves aviation sector in Pakistan.

Tie up the project with PIA's existing facilities or form a Engineering Firm which uses PIA's facility etc instead of this facility being wasted

100-150 passenger range craft , and ideal platform for taking baby steps

Great potential to learn if this craft is negotiated to be assembled / manufactured in Pakistan

The Saab2000 offering is a bit on the lower end but still a valuable learning step
I would be happy to see this platform migrated to Pakistan as well

C919 (Chinese option) would make sense as this plane will certainly sell and it would be a similar successful project like JF17 thunder

Knowledge and some experience with Saab2000 would be nice carry over from Super Mushak plane ...

It would be more logical progression.

But if we are talking about Commercial goal , then C919 should be discussed
