Moscow and Islamabad have inked their largest-ever cooperation deal, worth billions of dollars, to expand trade and business, Pakistani officials have announced. It includes huge investments in energy, rail and steel industries.
The deal comes as a 64-member delegation, led by Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, is in Pakistan on an official four-day visit.

As part of the agreement, Russia will provide financial assistance worth $1 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) project.

The two sides also discussed investments in the much-delayed North-South gas pipeline. Russian companies are expected to build a gas pipeline from Karachi in the south to Lahore in the north-east to transport imported natural gas to meet the region’s energy demands.

Earlier this year, Russia promised a $14 billion investment in Pakistan’s energy sector, including $2.5 billion for the North-South pipeline project.

A Russian company has developed a project to convert the Muzaffargarh thermal power station to coal and establish a 600-megawatt coal-fired power plant at Jamshoro.

Russia’s Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) planes will be supplied on both wet and dry lease with an option to purchase, according to Pakistani officials. The narrow-bodied aircraft with a dual-class cabin is capable of transporting 100 passengers over regional routes.

An unnamed official told Pakistan’s Daily Times that the aircraft could be operated in both domestic and international sectors, including the Middle East, CIS, India, China, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the UAE.

Islamabad, which purchased MI-35 helicopters in 2018, is interested in other Russian hardware as well. The two nations aim to increase bilateral trade which last year stood at $700 million. Pakistan’s exports to Russia reached $150 million while imports from Russia are worth $250 million.

Moscow will also help to construct a railway track from Quetta to Taftan.

Last week, Pakistan and Russia signed an agreement on the settlement of mutual financial claims and commitments on operations of the former Soviet Union, whereby Pakistan repaid a $93.5 million debt to Russia.“We have removed the problem. Russia will come to Pakistan strongly now,” said a Pakistani government official.

We always know, Russia, as China's friend and ally, sooner or later will follow China into Pakistan.

I'm a little pessimistic about Russia, given its strong ties with India and its negative history with Pakistan and Afghanistan

Pakistan also has strong ties with Turkey, Bosnia, and Kosovo, who are enemies to Russia's European allies like Serbia. Atleast Russia is opening up to Azerbaijan, as before they were fully pro-Armenian in the past.

Mostly they use Pakistan to blackmail India to ensure a steady purchase of military equipment.

.
it's better to get rid of uncle Sam and it's peanuts , Pakistan should try to make a regional corporation based foreign policy, China Russia Pakistan Iran India Turkey should come close by solving all regional issues to keep USA at Bay, and world at large Will be at peace with out one and only evil of this globe the USA,

Geopolitics does wonders, Russia used to be China's worst enemy a generation ago, back then the two countries wanted nothing from each other but death and total destruction. India is more and more moving close to US, that's something Russia can't tolerate eventually.

Russia is in a tight spot because both EU and US are not pleaaed at its meddling in politics (hypocrisy given their stances)
They will make odd alliances even make them long lasting as in foreign policy only national onterests are supreme if they change so do the foes and friends

Russia is looking to build trade ties to diversify away from Europe. Pakistan is a growing market, and getting in early is a way to stay relevant in global geo-strategic-economic calculus.

In terms of Russian weapons; Pakistan should look to get sub-systems and sensors from Russia that they have refined in the war in Syria. Radars, EW equipment, communication equipment, modern RPGs that are cheaper than anti-tank missiles but still highly effective against platforms without an active defense and other economical systems that give 80-90% of the capability for half the price of the latest western system. Russian naval equipment might be worth considering. Russian cold weather gear should be considered when we know India has its eyes on Gilgit-Baltistan.

Now that looks like a reality. So the rumours we were hearing about the sukohi jet purchase deals was in fact about civilian jet.

It is a good and smart move by Russia . it will get access to warm waters stretching from Iranian west coast to Pakistan's east coast Karachi. it will get preferential treatment over americans, it will have a stake in afghanistan without the fear of reprisals by Pakistanis, it will a good intelligence against millitants soo there is much more for russia to gain than lose

It's our fault Stalin invited that babu Liaqat to Moscow but instead Liaqat went to Washington besides it wasnt until like 1954 or 1955 that Indo-Soviet ties would warm up Stalin wasnt fan of Gandhi and he saw independent India as a British Pawn he was pretty neutral when it came to South Asia as for Serbia and Kosovo both were better under Yugoslavia and Russia took a neutral stance or basically played both sides between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the 90s Russian Mercenaries fought on both sides but because of The loss of Georgia in the 2000s Moscow need to have good ties with both Baku and Yerevan

No doubt. Liaqat Ali Khan Sahib sacrificed many things for this country; at the end, even his life.

Ameen. It is important to see the work that our Bozorg did for us. We are nothing without such people, may Allah swt bless them.

It was only after Nawaz that every leader has been a crook. Glad Imran Khan has broken that streak.
