Pakistan to nominate Adib Rizvi for Nobel peace prize

Hate him or Love him, Zardari officially announced Dr. Adib Rizvi for the Nobel Peace Prize.

KARACHI, July 22 (APP)- President Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday that Pakistan will nominate prominent surgeon Dr Adib Rizvi for Nobel peace prize in recognition for his meritorious services in the field of organ transplantation. He was speaking at the gift of life certificate signing ceremony at Bilawal House organised by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with SIUT and Human Organ Transplantation Association here on Thursday. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro, federal and provincial ministers, WHO officials, prominent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi were also present on the occasion.

“Pakistan would like to officially nominate Dr Adibul Hassan Rizvi as a candidate for Nobel peace prize”, he added.

The Nobel Prize in medicine goes to someone who contributes to the scientific advancement in the field of medicine, like research, theory etc.

Examples are like work on cancer and diagnostic techniques, people who made the MRI (though they were electrical engineers as well), people who develop vaccines which can directly be applied in the field of medicine.

In Dr Adib Rizvi's case he didn't discover or research something, but did philanthropic work and led SIUT to one of the most successful programs in Pakistan's history. For his efforts he deserves the peace prize.

A great man who has created the biggest, best performing and uniquely modern public health organization in Pakistan. The number of dialysis and transplants is enormous and he contributed heavily to the formulation and promulgation of our organ transplant laws as well.

He has a HI, SI and a Ramon Magsaysay Award under his belt for his great services to Pakistan and to humanity.

As for EDhi sb, he should be the first choice for our nomination.

May i submit that Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi is a worthy candidate for this singular distinction. Edhi saab is an inspiration for anybody in any part of the world.
This is not intended to detract from the achievements of Dr. Adib Riizvi which stand on their own merit.

My vote is for Eidhi......Even with all this fame he lives like an ordinary person...I was surprised when i saw him in Hayatabad super market here in Peshawar. He came to help IDPs. He is so simple and honest person.

And Adib Rizvi dont know much about his work but if Obama can get peace prize then who know?

I know Adib Bhai very well.He is an extremely hard working man, who is immensely devoted towards his work and patients. However, with due respect, there is nothing pioneering in the work he has done. He drives a very dedicated and loyal team to do great things but it is not novel.

very true indeed!!

Obama got the award on the basis of "hope" to bring peace, without actually accomplishing anything.

I do not know much about Dr. Rizvi's work, but am sure he has accomplished much more than Obama so he should be a viable candidate.

edhi foundation has a $10 million budget, but he didn't even take a single penny from it!
he only owns 1-2 salwar kamiz and 1 pair of slippers which he worn for last 20 years!!!!!!!
