Pakistan To Manufacture KIA Vehicles With Iran's Collaboration

Despite being a nicer copy..Genesis is an utter failure in Sales..i have not seen one for years...where as Mercedes is to be found at every traffic light...Koreans may use the same tech..or even advance..but their material quality is rubbish..the engine wears down very fast...my father had a old Mazda 929 model 1982 with 400K on the oddo...and only one engine rebuild..and as of 2016 it is still going strong..Korean engines are trash in two year...I have personally witness KIA engine replacements after 2-3 years of service...


You clearly missed my point :enjoy:. It is not a bad sedan for the Pakistani market. I've been there and seen what people drive and pay for, which is a pretty penny for poor people in Pakistan. And I am a Mercedes guy and have had pretty much all their models, including the S550. You are right that they are on every corner, but every corner in the US or the KSA (looking at your flag). Can average Pakistanis afford it? No. So for them, Kia, made in Pakistan, isn't bad. It will create many more industries. You got to start somewhere. Audi, Renault and many others are coming too. Have an all made in Pakistan brand will serve you well in the future to compete against them and save billions in imports from Japan (which in my opinion still produces crappy cars for India and Pakistan). You need to setup one of your own brands, with total TOT.

Next, on engines, yes, you'd have 2-5% cars with issues. That's a standard. One time a few years ago, one of my brand new E-Class had to go through an entire engine replacement within three months of driving it with like 3000 miles on it. And that's German engineering. You can't discount an entire Brand over a few issues. Kia sold $ 47.24 billion dollars worth of autos across the globe in 2015. You'd tell me people are dumb and stupid who paid them over $ 47 billion? That a LOT of money. It generated over $ 47 Trillion Korean Won in revenue (when you divide it by the US dollar currency rate, you get the $ 47.24 billion number). Like I said, their products are durable and anything is great when your own country makes the entire thing and doesn't require imports for its common citizen, saving billions of dollars. Thanks

Will they make cars that people can afford or go Honda Toyota way in making only big and expensive cars that many Pakistanis cant afford.

i think it's true for other manufacturers as well. Nissan with Infiniti, Mercedes with AMG, VW with Audi and others, Honda with Acura. Premium gets the latest tech then the lower models after a few years gets them! Toyota has a working hydrogen can and released in US last year and Toyota is leagues ahead in sales of their Hybrid and now they will be leagues ahead with Hydrogen.

What i said about Toyota is the perception that is followed all over the worlds. Consumers get Toyota because it is dead reliable, nothing changed; same old technology. New technology that requires lots of tinkering at first are often diagnosed with side-effects in the first years coupled with the recalls which explains why Hyundai/Kia, VW have been plagued with the recall engines sometimes for a while. Even for Toyota especially its camry had been issued with engine recall on 2007 in North America.

Positive sides for Hyundai/Kia and VW is they have now worked out the kink issues and ready to go with the Turbo technology as reliable mainstream and has been while while Honda just started on Turbo and pretty soon Toyota will have to attend to Turbo technology to stay ahead of the competition. Toyota is always the last to upgrade since Toyota is the top ranking in the sales, therefore i can understand why Toyota can take the markets for granted whereas for others like Hyundai/Kia/Nissan/VW and others.

Reliability and technology, you are drawing parallels between yet two are conjugated. What you are saying is that Toyota adopt certain technologies later than other manufacturers! have you considered that certain technologies require maturity?

One example from my personal use and experience I had a VW golf and it came with a early form of ESP system in a 2004 car. Now Japanese cars like Toyota began offering it as a standard much later on but the Germans were first to come out with it as Bosch are behind it but not like Toyota couldn't place it in their vehicles. anyway it didn't work as advertised to be honest and my friend had a 2008 passat which had a newer system which was a improvement but again fell short didn't work as advertised either then i got a 2010 golf better yet but still not perfect and Toyota began to offer the system as standard as well if i remember correctly. Now I have a 2014 Toyota and the system in there is excellent I feel the immediate difference when i switch the system off and on again. System overall is better regardless of the vehicle!

The technology was incorporated as it appears when it worked flawlessly! as for the new small petrol engines that are turbo charged are NOT perfect yet I know this because so many VW TFSI or TSI are suffering many issues but VW incorporate the new tech and improve with sales and then I suppose Toyota incorporate when it's matured!

I am guessing you must have ridden the used cars from 2001-2009. Modern Kia and Hyundai have changed. In fact, they are rated top quality with the strong engines and very fuel efficient. Comparison to boring Toyota and Suzuki, Hyundai/Kia are lively and memorable ride. They are solid.


Maybe then there's hope for Yugo or Lada?! They have had even more years to catch up with technology. :)

ps. I don't know much about cars. My wife and I drive 2008, 2009 Toyota Yaris respectively. "Boring" but reliable and great on fuel.

Toyota best technology is actually reserved for its premium product, Lexus. You want cutting-edge technology, get Lexus which costs you premium price.

I agree Toyota is working on hydrogen technology but so is Hyundai. Their commercial products are already being used but not mainstream yet. The hybrid technology that Toyota uses for Prius is actually old. Its technology is nickel-metal-hydride. I hear Toyota is starting to upgrade with the today's technology now.



Until then, Toyota is using the same outdated technology for Corolla and Camry. Check out their engine specification.

Ever heard of Toyota Avalon?
You live in stone age brother. Toyota cars are far superior than what they used to be, they might be using the same engine in Pakistan but that's nit the case anywhere else. Engine efficiency doesn't just go up on its own. And truth be told Lexus is more reliable than a Toyota.

The Cars Owners Keep for 10 Years or More

The cars that the most owners hold onto for 10 years or more are all Japanese models, according to a new study by iSeeCars.com. SUVs and minivans dominate the list of owner favorites, which include three hybrids: the first-ranked Toyota Highlander Hybrid, second-ranked Toyota Prius, and the ninth-ranked Lexus RX (hybrid).

The automotive research firm analyzed over 2.5 million cars from the 1981-2006 model years sold in 2016. Ten models were at least 1.9 times more likely than average to be held onto by the original owners for 10 years or more. The list includes five Toyotas, three Hondas, one Lexus, and one Subaru. The percentage of the original owners who kept their new car for at least a decade ranged between 4.0 percent and 32.1 percent.

“The top 10 cars that people hold onto are all from Japanese automakers, which isn’t surprising since they have a reputation for reliability. But the makeup of the cars is unexpected,” said Phong Ly, CEO of iSeeCars.com.

Nine of the top 10 cars are SUVs and minivans. “These kinds of cars tend to be used as family cars, so they might be expected to be kept for many years if they’re bought just as their owners start their new families,” said Ly.

Equally surprising is seeing two hybrid vehicles in the top 5, with three hybrids overall in the top 10. Despite common anxieties about the durability of the car batteries, owners hold onto these cars for a long time. “For hybrids, the savings from fuel costs accrue only after several years of ownership, so one reason owners may be keeping these vehicles is to offset the higher cost of a hybrid,” Ly noted.

How Popular Vehicles Fared

Absent from the overall top 10 list are some of the nation’s most popular vehicles. Among the 10 that are typically most popular with US consumers, the percentages ranged from 7.9% to 20.3%. Four of the top five that were above average were Japanese cars, with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 the lone domestic vehicle.

The percentage of initial owners for the three most popular pickup trucks were close to or below average. ”Trucks are often used as heavy work vehicles, such as in construction, and so are driven much more than a typical passenger car. Consequently, they may need to be replaced earlier,” said Ly.

By contrast, the bottom of the overall list was populated primarily by domestic nameplates that are known for their use in commercial fleets or the rental market, such as the Ford Taurus (5.6% of owners), or by cars that are popular as leases, such as the BMW 7 Series (4.0% of owners).

“Those markets favor cars that are only a few years old—ten years after these cars were first sold, chances are that they would be sold by their second or third owners instead of their original owners,” said Ly.

Comparison of Brands

Unsurprisingly, Japanese brands produce the largest share of cars that owners hold onto for a decade or longer. Seven of the top ten brands overall are Japanese, as are the top four. Korean brands Hyundai and Kia also make the list coming in at fifth and seventh—cars from these automakers have been improving in design and reliability over time. GMC is the only domestic brand in the top 10 but the percentage of initial owners keeping their cars for a decade or more is barely better than the average.

The Passenger Cars Owners Hold Onto

While SUVs and minivans dominate the overall top 10 list, the top 10 passenger cars are also dominated by Japanese and Korean brands. Toyota’s cars take four of the first five positions, and cars from Hyundai, Mazda, and Honda make up most of the rest of the list. The Audi A3 was the lone car from a non-Asian brand—Audi has also had a reputation for producing reliable vehicles.

The Pickup Trucks Owners Hold Onto

Trucks were kept by their original owners at rates that were closer to average. The top truck, the Honda Ridgeline, was held by its first owner at only 1.7 times the overall average. Four of the top 10 pickup trucks are smaller trucks. Interestingly, all of the top five are again from Japanese automakers.

For car shoppers, buying an older, single-owner car can mean a solid car at great savings. “If an automobile has been kept by its original owner for a decade or longer, it’s very likely to have been well cared for, both in terms of cleanliness as well as maintenance and upkeep. Shoppers may find more value in a one-owner car, compared to buying one that’s been through multiple owners or with a more complicated history.”

Methodology

iSeeCars.com analyzed over 2.5 million used cars from model years 1981-2006, sold between January 1 and October 30, 2016. For each model, the number of cars sold by the original owner (based on Carfax data) was expressed as a percentage of the total number of cars sold. “Original-owner” cars were bought as new by the owner. The models were then ranked by the original-owner percentage. Models with fewer than 100 original-owner cars or which were no longer in production as of the 2016 model year were excluded from the analysis.

ISLAMABAD: Member of Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) Sohail Bashir Rana has said that Pakistan is going to produce KIA vehicles with the collaboration of Iran.

In an interview with IRNA, he said that Kia is in talks with Pakistani 'Lucky' Company to restart manufacturing facility in Pakistan.

He said Kia cars had been assembled by Pakistan in the past but they stopped production because of some problems.

Director Millat Tractors Limited (MTL) said Kia has a very big set up in Iran so the Kia plant in Iran will provide components of Kia vehicles to Pakistani plant.

He said that Iran and Pakistan have been collaborating in manufacturing of vehicles mainly the tractors.

Member PAMA said that in past Millat Tractors of Pakistan had collaboration with Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company and Sarzan Motors for making the tractor components.

"We are in talks with these companies to restart this facility again, there are some procedural problems like lack of banking channel but I am hopeful that these hurdles would be removed in near future," he said.

Sohail Bashir Rana added that German Volkswagen and French Renu companies have also shown interest in establishing car manufacturing plants in Pakistan with the collaboration of local companies.

What Iran can offer in terms of latest automobile tech??? KIA is not Iranian company either.

Iran?? where did Iran came from? what would be there role??
Any company who starts a new venture in another country needs basic materials and tools to set up so in order to do that they have to bring parts from the source closest to the place they are about to set up and since iran is close , so they're bringing parts from there

Are you talking about vehicle overall taking interior and exterior into the account or engine? That engine is still old, but very reliable. Why would they tinker with the technology that ain't broke? Toyota is number one in the ranking because of its reliability, not superior in technology. Only German cars are superior in technology but lacks reliability in those technology unfortunately.

Maybe then there's hope for Yugo or Lada?! They have had even more years to catch up with technology. :)

That alone is the reason why Toyota remains top seller all over the worlds. Those who want sportier and modern technology would have go to somewhere, but that being said, Toyota's premium brand 'Lexus' is very advanced and right up to German's quality standard.

VW provides modern technology, but problem is that their modern technology is untested. Hence the experimental trial to iron the kinks out eventually. Right now, VW had five years to iron out the kinks of turbo technology so they should be good for the foreseeable future whereas Honda and Toyota are now jumping to the modern technology.

You want good-old reliable, but that is your choice. But Toyota is no way superior in technology - just reliable due to the technology that is old and proven effective.

Unfortunately for you, i didn't take the trouble to repeat since you haven't read my posts at all. Otherwise, you wouldn't have called me bias towards Toyota. It is matter of preference for the customers which has absolutely nothing to do with bias. But now i am convinced this post of mine will also fall on deaf ears too. :disagree:
