Mi-28 is not an advance helo. Speed , payload and armour is not everything. It's night fighting capabilities is not strong compare to the both.

Yes, Russian weapon is never great electronic and sensor sector. We are talking about fighting war in 21th century where real time data and accurate deliver of missile on target are more inportant than just engine power and thick heavy armour. But too many fanboy can only see the artificial of raw engine power and take off weight.

Have there been any confirmation from the Turkish side yet?
Had an opportunity to talk to someone at PAC and according to him they already have a lot on there hands and there is no major new facility under construction. Perhaps if the deals is finalized it will take a couple of years at least to start production. There have been new news about the numbers either. A local assembly/manufacturing will make more sense if the numbers we are looking at are at least 40+20, AT LEAST. Setting up a new shop of 30 off choppers wont be a very wise idea. Also there appears to be no plans to go for a medium lift locally made helicopter as yet because if that is pursued as well then setting up a new facility at Kamra for helicopter manufacturing will make much more sense.

No official news, but Aviation Week apparently learnt of Pakistan possibly co-producing the T129 at IDEF - see link from 4:00 onward. Aviation Week is way more credible than Dunya News. Anyways, if the PAA is planning on 40+ units, then some local support would be worthwhile - it would be both feasible and advisable. Besides CKD/SKD assembly, the focus would be on license manufacturing some of the spare parts, especially the ones that wear.

With helicopters, I wouldn't expect anything near in scope or the JF-17. Rather, I think the focus is on acquiring local MRO, CKD or - at most - SKD assembly with workshare in a minor % of the manufacturing, especially spare parts. In fact, besides fighter aircraft, I'd say the above will be the template of all future programs in Kamra.

The only other full-scale program I can see as plausible is that of a very lightweight utility helicopter ala Fennec or MD500. There is potential for domestic scale as a mainstay scout, training and general utility helicopter (think rotary wing Mushshak).

All aviation works (paid by the armed forces) will likely be done through PAC, which is best positioned to house the necessary infrastructure, produce the human resources and perfect the task. The PAF has a vision of turning Kamra into an "aviation city", so it being home to helicopter-related work is natural.

The works for helicopters vs. aircraft vs. spacecraft are different enough that they should be handled by separate entities with generous cross-pollination through regular meetings and seminars. Otherwise it will become a beast that is too mighty to manage. I have my reservations about this approach.

Yup, that is what i am saying. Plus 40, 40+ is the absolute minimum number for any such venture i think, keeping in mind that the number may never go above 60 at max.

For a future light/medium lift/utility helicopter, do you think building or designing one around the T-129 engine and gear box can be possible? I think it should be. If that is the case we can get some parts commonality and in that case a local assembly plant for T-129 will be truly beneficial as well.
