Pakistan is expected to increase its military spending in the years to come by several billion dollars, a recent report suggests.

As per the “Pakistani Defense Market – Attractiveness, Competitive Landscape and Forecasts to 2024,” the country is expected to spend $48.5 billion from 2020 to 2024 on defense.

The amount is around $6 billion more than what it invested in the past four years – from 2015 to 2019. The move is mandatory to manage internal instability and bolster its defense capabilities concerning India, suggests the report.

Between 2015 and 2019, the US military aid was halted and thus the country’s defense budget increased at a sluggish rate – not to mention the deteriorating economic situation as well.

Pakistan invested $7.6 billion in the defense sector in 2015 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 0.69 percent, which jumped up to $7.8 billion in 2019.

In the last four years, the country’s average capital expenditure allocation per annum remained at 36.8% of the total defense budget, while its revenue expenditure allocation was 63.2%.

In the next four years, the country is expected to push the average capital allocation for military hardware up-gradation to 37.8 percent.

Pakistan suffered a massive setback when the US halted arms supply in the aftermath of the conflicts between the two countries over Afghanistan. To recover from that, the country’s defense industry increased its indigenous capabilities to fulfill a majority of the national requirements. However, it still seeks China’s help for technologically advanced defense equipment.

The report suggests that the Pakistani export market will gradually grow over the forecast period on the back of its high-quality indigenous defense systems.

Kindly provide the source link. Also this needs a more detailed look-see, before any comments can be made. I didn't know that Pakistan is spending so much on defence?? Have to understand what these figures include.

With this ailing economy it's unlikely for Pakistan to invest such huge bucks for military. It might be budget for whole defense sector for both revenue and development expenditure.
last four years, the country’s average capital expenditure allocation per annum remained at 36.8% of the total defense budget, while its revenue expenditure allocation was 63.2% , if we consider this trend at best Pakistan's capital defense expenditures will be at best 20 billion dollar in next 5 year.

$9.7 billion dollars/ yr. Not bad considering Rupee devaluated against dollars. We need an air defense system(s) against S400. F7s and Mirages must retire in next 4 years. Upgrade all our F 16 fleet and either get more new/upgraded F16s or get another 4.5 gen jet to overcome the gap for Azm. Get atleast AIM120C7s. Type 59s and 69s should be upgraded or retired. We need more number of modern Tanks. AH 1 Cobras are working at the end of thier lives and we must find the replacement in form of AH 1Zs and Atak/Z10. Artillery needa to be modernised as India is getting M777, K9 Vajra and upgrading M46. Supersonic Missile for Navy should be developed on emergency basis and a Sub Launched Ballistic Missile should be developed for S20s to counter Indian K4. Upgradation of P3Cs should happen and if not then get their Replacement ASAP. We are getting Type 54As and Milgems but thatbis not enough. Indian Navy Chief had said that CPEC violate their Soverignity. We need destroyers and more Frigates

Similar like Indonesian defense spending which is at 9.6 billion dollar for 2020 budget.
