We lack proper air defence umbrella for our country
Here we go again; we don't need to acquire jack shit right now. We need to invest in Education and eliminate corruption and build institutions. These things will bring us on our feet. Economically, socially, militarily and politically. R&D will occur only and only then resulting in indigenization and cash flow; then we can buy whatever we want. I listened to the whole discussion of Khwaja Asif in united states institute of peace. Regardless of my political views; the guy talked well. But the only take-home point of the whole discussion was that in 15 years time period from now on we WILL become irrelevant (if the state of affairs will stay the same). We can be optimistic about CPEC but pragmatically speaking the way our institutions have ceased to work because of nepotism, uneducated literates making policies; i will not be surprised even if after CPEC we will not be able to harvest any fruits of it and mark my words some politicians will be giving statements against china and what not to save their corruption. If having weaponry is the only solution to the problem all the past greatest empires would never fall.
Not disagreeing, but without decent air defence, we will cease to exist as a country even.
In my opinion (which can be wrong) having minimum deterrence is the requirement. And we have that due to our missile tech and close proximity to india; having okish air defense would do for now, even for next 20 years. But after that our economic gap will swell exponentially compared to India; they will acquire new tech. What are we gonna do then? still trying to figure out if America will approve f16 sale or russia for Su-35. s400 or thaad. That's not the solution to our problem. We will case to exist as a country only if we will not take education, institution building and corruption seriously.
Both are equally important and can be achieved in parallel.
I agree that both are equally important; only if corruption is managed and institutions work, we can acquire these systems. But since that's not the case, we don't have enough resources for everything. And in my humble opinion education is the key to this problem. The more people will be educated the more they will question and things move along with it, fixing everything in it's path.
I was having a discussion on another thread. These corrupt politicians are controlling what is taught at schools. @GIANTsasquatch narrates how beacon house stopped teaching contemporary history to avoid hurting the sensitivities of zardari.
