Pakistan to get US drone technology soon: Qureshi

* FM says significant progress made on issue during US visit
* Americans to reconsider policy of body screening at US airports

LAHORE: Pakistan will soon hear “good news” about acquiring the US drone technology as significant progress was made on the issue during the visit of the country’s political and military leadership to America, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Sunday.

Talking to journalists on his arrival after concluding his visit to the US at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, he said Pakistani political and military leaders had successfully pleaded the country’s case after doing extensive research regarding Islamabad’s national priorities, adding that the Americans did not present any new demands during
the talks.

“On every matter, the US response was much better than we had anticipated,” he said.

Qureshi said the US has hinted about the provision of a multi-layer security system for the country and that both delegations discussed the current economic situation in Pakistan, adding that Islamabad had requested easy-debt returning conditions for the country.

To a question about whether he had also discussed the matter of a civil nuclear deal with the US, he said that discussing “some matters are against national dignity”.

The foreign minister said that both the civilian and military leadership had presented Pakistan’s point of view with “one voice”.

Promise: He said the US had promised to reconsider its policy of screening Pakistani travellers at US airports. He said that a meeting between Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and an American think tank was “extremely successful”.

“Pakistan has talked about ‘trade not aid’ with the US and we have agreed on some things regarding the energy sector,” the foreign minister said.

Qureshi said the dialogue process would continue and its next phase would start in April, adding that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would visit Pakistan after the completion of the second phase of the dialogue.

“Several US delegations will also visit Pakistan for mutual cooperation in various fields,” the foreign minister said, adding that after Hillary’s visit, he would again go to the US for further developments, APP reported. staff report/app

Congrats Pakistan!

Anyway, curiously, what components are we getting from USA regarding the drone technology other than sensors?

.
Too good to be true. I will see when Pakistan actually gets it. Would the US undermine her own regional and techonlogical interests by giving the drone tech to Pak? Highly doubt it.

.
But i think U.S is under very difficult situation in Afghanistan and need serious help from pak army. so they will do any thing if pak army press them a bit.

I don't see what the big deal is giving Pakistan the drone technology.

Its not that these drones carry any sensitive equipment that only US has in its possession.

US is the first to utilize this technology because of its massive military budget and its huge R&D which allowed it to create this technology but other countries are catching up.

If giving Pakistan this technology gives US an umbrella to which any future drone strikes will be attributed to Pakistani Army but in secret will still be carried out by USA which hopefully will silence the sovereignty issue, then US will be well advised to give us this technology.

US must remember that Pakistanis had the highest approval rating of USA in the 1980's when US gave Pakistan the F-16 fighter jets.

.
Are these going to be UCAV or UAV.? I think US already provided us Shadow drones.

.
A good help it would be for both Pakistan and US.

Pakistan may use it inside her territory more effectively and accurately.

KIT Over

.
I think Pakistan dont go for Drone Predator its better to ask "Help" and make/manufacture Armd drone in Pakistan (with the colaboration of US). Buying Drone from US like again dependent on US for parts and rest of other acceossries.

.
when Pakistan is making its own UCAV burraq and according to source it was undergoing tests as of 2009 plus turkey is making TIHA then why Pak need to go to US and ask them for their help

And i dun thnk USA will agree to provide UCAV tech to Pak rather it would be unarmed UAV

.
i guss the discussion was for the armed ons..if we get them well we ll create havoc in the region with our burraq and the american ons and we ll have a strong counter to indias cold start strategy...
thnx
