Pakistan to face economic sanctions if doesn't open NATO routes

But still nothing to do with NATO supply lines ....
Just a reply to another hypothesis.

It all depends upon the requirements of US. Say if Russia were to close down all their supply routes, and Pakistan were to still remain so stubborn, then sanctions on Pakistan could become a big possibility.

alquaeda has taken over an entire country just near the whole europe, but americans are hunting alquaeda some where it has supposedly covert presense, no open presence

are americans not fearful that by gaining authority of an entire country is more dangerous then some individual guy??

instead of maintaining good relationship with same alquaeda guys?

But surprise surprise how kind for Indians to come on here and be so nice to explain to us Pakistanis what is good for us. Thank you.

don't mind. My intentions was right. This thing even apply to Indians too.

This is what happens when the foreign policy is not THOUGHT THROUGH.

An emotional decision which was taken by GoP at that time, and now it find the international community squeeze GoP's balls to get what they want.

It is a contest of who blinks first; I believe that for once GoP should get to the end of it, and keep staring.
No matter how bad it gets, If GoP wants the international community will improve relations to what ever degree.
But
If International community pushes us too far to the point of no return, then there is no getting better for any one.

This is the card we should play.

Do you think the US is at the point where it would essentially break off all diplomatic ties with Pakistan and impose economic sanctions?

Most Americans and American apologists are claiming that the transit route through Pakistan is largely irrelevant for the US anyway, so why would the US use leverage such as economic sanctions to get the transit route opened?

IMO, if the US did decide to impose unilateral economic sanctions on Pakistan, it would be over something different, perhaps something related to the nuclear program, if the US claims of the Pakistani transit route closure being 'no big deal' are correct.

Some times, the repercussions are not based on the impacts of the action, but as punitive response to those actions in themselves...

The Haqqani network is backed or protected by Pakistan.. Officials: No action against Haqqani network by Pakistan military - CNN

There is zero evidence of backing HN. The only thing you have is Pakistan not wanting to open a front against HN due to lack of resources and expanding the war further for us and making new enemies.

Why give us bits and crumbs in aid, give us like USD 1 Trillion, a small part of the amount already spent by the US on this war and then some of the latest tech as well, we will then invest the money in Waziristan, just pay Mullah Omar like a few billions to call off the war and go home and voila we'll be done.

Otherwise we don't have the resources to fight another war. Before you justify your drones because of that, the crap still falls on us, when you kill our people and then their survivors will join groups to kill more Pakistanis and so on.

Your way... Sucks.

Very well said. One can always argue about the exact amount. But everyone should agree with the main thrust of your argument.

USA has given a paltry sum to us in the last 10 years if you compare this to USA's own expenses in the Afghanistan.

Ideally Pakistan should talk to the USA and ask for 20-25% of what their Afghan budget is.

This is what we call pure and simple defense contracting. No ifs and no buts.

However if we want to be a good contractor, then we cannot just sit around and eat moongphally and talk $hite.

Our first step should be to apply for NATO membership.
Our second step should be to supply bulk of NATO soldiers for any mission in Asia and Middle East (at least).

That would be truly win win situation.

peace.

An intentional leak on the part of the government to step down from its stance. The supply route has to be opened if the end of war is to be seen in the near future. Most in the government are for opening but because this issue has been talked so much and the emotions have been so charged that there is no option but the government to cut this sorry picture of aid being suspended if the route is not opened.

I think we are at the point where the US no longer has our "unstinting support". Now after sending spies, conducting illegal air raids and murdering numerous Pakistani civilians if it wants military support from us, there cannot be aid or CSF, it has to be earth shattering. Like a trillion dollars sounds fair.

Na unho ne deni hai, na humne line kholni hai. Siddhi siddhi gal ay.

The Army did that intentionally with the public to make sure they could put the civilian government on the defensive. Sadly, it also placed the whole country at a disadvantage, but who cares about that, right?

Why would that be needed when all of what you say can be done much cheaply through the UN, with Pakistan personnel on deputation? NATO membership would mean that attack on Pakistan would be an attack on all NATO countries. Why give that assurance when some nice dollars flowing through the UN will do the job just as well, and much cheaper by comparison still?

We are ready to face any sanction, only our crook leaders and generals are making money, people are suffering, no peace no electricity no business
Who cares for sanctions

.
well we learn from the Chinese. I as a Pakistani prefer Chinese assistance. They have won our hearts and minds. Something your beloved all knowing can do no wrong Americans could learn from

Yeah and the Chinese are helping you in the crisis, so much for the higher than mountain friendship.

The super rich sees his friend struggling to meet its needs and does nothing, spare me of such friendship.

Pakistan faced U.S. sanctions in the 1990's and I believe Pakistan was better off then than its now as America's partner in war OF terror.

.
The Pakistani people are already facing sanctions because of the Corrupt Government.
No aid and donation distribution, No Food, No clean water, No toilets, No education, No freedom of speech, No democracy for millions of Pakistanis.

Sanction the country all you want, it's not going to change the current state of the country...

The least it will do is affect the Corrupt & the Elite. But it's a good thing, they need some suffering as well.

.
Sanctions is not a military solution that you will not support, the lack of oil and other aids will strangle the Pakistani economy further.. China can only do a little to help, frankly if US goes the sanctions way CHina cant do much..

Firstly I've always wondered why Indians likes to spell China with capital C and H?
Second, being sanctioned isn't the end of the world. True it makes things harder but life goes on.
Look at Iran, they are a good current example of how to live life outside the US Dollar.
