Pakistan to develop national internet firewall to block content on internet

China.................... Not Free
Russia....................... Not Free
UAE.................Not Free
Turkey............Not Free
Malaysia............ Partially Free
Iran................. Not Free

Approximately, half of the world is not free to use internet............. other 1/3 of world partially free remaining 20% might be free in somehow............... but you just focus on Pakistan............. but why.....................

Why.
Because of the thread title.
Aren't we discussing pakistan's internet and not Rusaia or China's?

Notwithstanding the obvious India Pakistan issues its better for the poulace of both our countries if Pakistan has freer sources of information and less of censorship.

Freedom is subjective.... would you leave your country's borders wide open??

Not in today's world...
1. Where Russians cyber agents have been charged for malipulation of the electorial process in America...
2. Where revolts in Iran were managed by the CIA...
3. Where the "Arab Springs" has brought riots and turmoil through the social media...
4. Where most of the Western world have put some measures of monitoring and control on Jihadi terror related sites and social media...
5. Where cyber criminals, cyber torrorism, and child por.n is a concern...
Then why in the hell won't Pakistan put some controls on the internet??? Especially with a terrorist nation of India on our south bent on Pakistans destruction!

A nations sovereignty is at risk due to an open unchecked internet.

The days of the innocent freedom of informationinternet is over.... The internet is now a tool for war!

.
Obviously here Indians are feeling more insecure than Pakistan about this potential move if implemented. This is good step to counter hybrid war in today's time where perception about any state is created through media with constant propaganda and manipulated news.

You shouldn't aspire to be like any of those countries on the matter of internet.
Turkey may seem liberal at first, but their judges are dumber than even ours on these issues and end up blocking Wikipedia and Imgur over one image of Erdoğan.

I agree that today Internet is a battleground, but in countries like ours, giving this responsibility to people with agendas never goes well.
It'll open another box. So focus on internet literacy instead.

If you want to do this every time successfully ............ now this will not remain so easily for your hackers and attackers

Try to have an open mind while looking at facts lest you succumb to confirmation bias.

That's not the freedom on net statistic.

You no longer have the moral high ground so it is natural for you to posture. Do know that no one cares.

Now let's address the issue.

Contrary to popular belief, net neutrality, or "freedom on net", is a value and not a principle. As a value, net neutrality has to compete with other values or need. Ergo, U.S. recently repealed net neutrality. Internet service providers (ISP) in U.S. are now free to block websites that host copyrighted material and manage their networks as they see fit. Other nations are not far behind:

To take it a step further, media platforms are themselves involved in censorship:

For Pakistan, the need for a Web Management Solution (WMS) has arisen in light of:

Having read the tender, I can say that the WMS project is limited in scope given that it is being implemented by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) who is heavily regulated and does not have broad authority. WMS does not even come close to China's Golden Shield Project.
