Pakistan to buy numerous AK-103 assault rifles to Russia
Pakistan is planning to purchase a big batch of AK-103 assault rifles manufactured by Russia’s Kalashnikov Corporation, a source in the Pakistani Defense Ministry told TASS at the Eurosatory 2016 defense and security international exhibition.

"Pakistan’s Armed Forces are planning to purchase a big number of AK-103 assault rifles as they can be used in the country’s hot weather conditions," the source said.

Pakistani Defense Ministry needs about one million new assault rifles," the source said. The source did not specify the potential proportion of Russian-made automatic rifles.

The 7.62mm AK-103 assault rifle is the most advanced version of the widely-used Kalashnikov AKM automatic rifle.

Army recognition isn't really a reliable source... It's quoting TASS whose quoting a ministry of defence official ...

The rifle trials started only recently it will take a long time before any rifle is selected..
If they did select AK-103.. "If" it may only replace the Type series... And the AK-103 presented was a modified version..

Zarvan a thank you would be great for the plagiarism!!!

It has been in accordance with ArmyRecognition and posted by Quwa

I respect Quwa, but unless I get some concrete evidence, I seriously have my doubts. That's not to say that I'm against the AK-103, the system may look like a regular AK, but it is FAR superior, so no one should be too sad if it is selected.

Though, again, trials are still on going, so I don't know how true this is.

AK-103 is most probably replacement for Type 56 and some friends suggest that it's for forces like Anti Narcotics force and others
If it is in small batches for smaller services like the ANF, then fine, but it just seems like an odd choice for setting a new standard for the army.

Sir I think this Gun will replace Type 56. Pakistan has no other option when it comes to 7.62 X 39 caliber but for G3 I think SCAR would come.
I think it was already established in previous threads that both the SCAR and the Bren were offering the 7.62 caliber for Pakistan.

Even if it's in large numbers than it would only replace TYPE 56 not G3. For G3 we still have to decide the Gun. But one friend is saying that it's for Anti Narcotics Force and other forces like Special Forces of Para Military

SCAR is offering 7.62 X 51 not 7.62 X 39. We use both calibers in massive numbers and want Guns of both calibers

To be fair ... neither TASS or Army Recognition offered any scope into the purchase. It literally could be about as big as any of the M4 or M16 purchases we've seen for the SSG.

That said, Army Recognition is reasonably reliable, and TASS is strong (ahead of Sputnik News and Kommersant). We're just lacking context, to be honest (as some are suggesting the AK-103 purchase is for specific units).

From what I know, SCAR and Bren both offered to make the 7.62 x 39, and have previously experimented with this caliber.

The BREN sent to Pakistan is 7.62x39mm, but its value rests with the fact that it can be chambered for 5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO as well. Not to back the product too strongly, but credit ought to be given to CZ for actively iterating on the design based on real world feedback (or at least being transparent about it). Even if the BREN 2 doesn't work out, maybe the feedback they get from Pakistan ends up in a BREN 3?

Whether it is SCAR, BREN, ARX or even Zastava, new designs can be tricky business. Plentiful potential (e.g. adaptable chambers, stopping power), but you never know with quality until you put it through real combat.

People were praising the 805 BREN, but then the Czech Republic went to Afghanistan, and things weren't so hot, so we got BREN 2.

If the Pakistan Army is selecting a new design (e.g. SCAR, BREN, ARX or M77), then I reckon this "evaluation" is going to happen for a few years, if not longer. We're not going to buy a single rifle type, rather, we'll buy a platform and buy small batches of each iterative improvement until such time a rock solid version emerges.
