Pakistan thrilled at China’s role for Pak-India peace

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan is thrilled at China’s intervention for Pak-India peace amid the ever-increasing tension, diplomatic sources said.

Senior officials at the foreign ministry told The Nation that Pakistan had thanked Beijing for the efforts for regional peace.

One official said: “We have told Beijing that Pakistan welcomes steps taken by China for peace in the region. The recent statement by Chinese foreign minister (Wang Yi) has thrilled Islamabad.”

Citing recent contacts with Beijing, he said: “China has assured it will do all it can from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization platform to bring Pakistan and India closer for the benefit of the whole region and defuse tension.”

Earlier, Wang Yi said China expected the SCO to play a key role in resolving the differences between Pakistan and India, who joined the organization last year.

“We know there are existing and historical unresolved conflicts between Pakistan and India,” the Chinese foreign minister said this week, adding: “But I think after they joined the SCO, maybe we can provide a better platform and opportunities for the building of relations between them.”

The statement came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi indicated that Pakistan was a major stumbling block in the improvement of relations between India and China.

Wang Yi said that all SCO members have taken pledges about maintaining good relations with other members. He described the SCO as a “great vehicle” for improving ties between India and Pakistan.

President Mamnoon Hussain was in China this week to represent Pakistan at the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting. During the sideline meetings, Pakistan, Russia and China formed an unofficial bloc vowing to work together in the coming years, diplomatic sources said.

President Hussain also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines. He also held bilateral meetings with other leaders of the SCO member states.

In the recent months, both Moscow and Beijing have expressed optimism that the two nuclear-armed neighbours’ entry into the SCO could strengthen prospects for peace across the region.

The Council of the Heads of State, which convenes annually, is the highest decision-making forum of the SCO. It reviews the performance of the organization and its bodies and makes fundamental decisions about the future course of action. China has held the chairmanship of the Council since the last Summit in Astana in June 2017, which will now pass on to Kyrgyzstan.

The just-concluded summit witnessed the signing of over 20 documents outlining future SCO trajectory in a number of spheres. Besides the Qingdao declaration these included: action plan on implementing the provisions of treaty on long-term good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation; cooperation plan on combating terrorism, separatism and extremism; anti-drug strategy and its plan of action, concept on preventing the abuse of narcotic drugs; declaration on trade facilitation; vision on environment protection and joint appeal of heads of state on the necessity to prevent involvement of youth in activities of destructive nature and action plan.

Besides cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields such as cooperation on countering threats of epidemics; MOU on stimulating cooperation in the small and medium-sized enterprises.

An MoU for cooperation between SCO and UNESCO was also signed. The council confirmed the appointment of new Secretary General of SCO N V Imamovich and G D Fayozovichnew Executive Director of SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.

Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammed Faisal said China was a great friend and had always been firmly behind Islamabad. He said ties with Russia were also developing into partnership. “Pakistan wants peace with India and welcomes all steps in this regard,” he added.

He said peace was in the interest of the whole region and China and Russia were big players.

SCO paves way for Pak-India joint military drills

BEIJING: Pakistan, India and other member states of the SCO will participate in the upcoming joint military drill dubbed Peace Mission 2018 to promote mutual trust against terrorist threats and to maintain regional peace and stability, says a report published in Chinese media.

The drill’s command post exercise will take place at the Chebarkulsky training ground in the Ural Mountains region in August. Chiefs of general staff of the SCO nations will also hold a meeting during the joint military drills, it said.

The exercise will follow the 18th SCO Summit, scheduled for June 9 and 10 in Qingdao, Shandong province. The exercises are biannual, multinational drills with the goal of enhancing counterterrorism coordination and cooperation among the eight member countries, which include China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The drill does not target any third party.

The last exercise was held in Kyrgyzstan in September 2016. The 2018 exercise will be the first for India and Pakistan since becoming full members of the SCO in 2017. It also will be the first time India and Pakistan take part in a military exercise together since their independence, though their militaries have previously worked on United Nations peacekeeping missions. Li Xing, a professor of international relations at Beijing Normal University, said India and Pakistan in the joint exercise represents a new height in security cooperation through the SCO.

The question is that will SCO senior members like Russia and China force India to stop making dams on Pakistani rivers? Will they force India to give up Kashmir which was suppose to be a Pakistani area from the start ? Will they force India to stop killing innocent Kashmiris , raping their women and stop genocide of a whole nation which want freedom from oppressors? Will they force India to close their 20 plus so called consulates which are actually breeding ground for the terrorists who get training from there and then responsible for killing over 50,000 Pakistani people ? Will they force India to stop violating the borders of Pakistan which they have been doing every now and then ? And most of all will they be able to make the Hindu majority Indians to give up their dream of Hindutava and accept Pakistan as a reality and live and let live ????????

The answer is NO. but China will help India and Pakistan to sit down and talk about the problems, eventually that will solve all the problems you mentioned above!

. . . . . .
We have bilateral issues with Pakistan, mostly related to terrorism. No third party is allowed. Thats our official stand as far as I'm aware.

When I read the title I thoght that India agreed for China to mediate between us. But that doesn't seem to be the case. It was just a "we hope" statement and nothing official.

If anything, the issues should be resolved by a multinational committee sent by the UN. But that also constitutes as a "third party"- something India has always declined.

No-one is going to solve these for us. We need to do it ourselves. Stop the terrorism and come to the table. Peace negotiations can't be carried out with the bullets firing in the background.

No Third country allowed for mediation as per Shimla agreement. Differences slowed through Bilateral arrangement only :-)

There can be no peace with India as they are targeting our waters by illegally blocking them, so let them let free our waters then we can talk about peace but India does not want peace & are pushing region slowly towards war.

Chinese or china has no role to play, this statement makes no sense. As usual a diplomatic norm from china.
Pakistan as always thrilled by a higher than mountain and deeper than sea friend, since they think china is replacing the role of usa of yester years in Indian sub continent affairs.

China is not usa nor china has any role to play in this fight between Pakistan's Jihad and India's right.

China, Russia and Pakistan should form a united force and invade India and thereafter take all India's dams to be controlled by Pakistan, hand over Kashmir to Pakistan and that other place somewhere near Tibet to China and thereafter make India sign a surrender agreement undertaking to purchase arms only from Russia. Problem solved
