FARIDABAD (India) - Pakistan handicapped cricket team won the Satyug Darshan Trust Indo-Pak Physically Challenged Cricket Series after thrashing Indian handicapped team by five wickets in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series here at Raja Nehar Singh Stadium on Friday.
With this comprehensive and historic triumph, Pakistan team also took sweet revenge of their loss against the same opponents earlier in June, when Indian team visited Pakistan and played three ODIS and one T20 at Shalimar Cricket Ground Islamabad.
Indians set a decent target of 166 runs for victory in 30 overs after batting first. Pakistan, in reply, once again lost their opener Alamgir at 19 while Adeel Khan also flopped with the bat as he was the next batsmen to be out at the total of 31. Pakistan were stunned when last match hero Asad Laghari was shown the pavilion, when the teams total was 50. Pakistan suffered another setback when their specialist batsman Tauqeer was run out at that time when the team was struggling at 66 for the loss of four wickets.
Captain M Fayyaz then joined Saqib Inayat at the crease and they both played sensibly and took the team score to 115 before Fayyaz was stumped trying to hit a ball out of the park. Things were not looking good for the visitors as they required another 51 runs for victory in 36 deliveries with only five wickets remaining.
Nehar then joined Saqib at the time when Indians were smelling victory as the run rate was getting tougher after every over. Nehar introduction proved to be the turning point of the match as he struck three boundaries in a space of nine balls, a rare scene for the spectators and especially for Pakistan team management as before Nehar, instead of thinking about hitting boundaries, even singles were hard to manage for Pakistan but he played with venom and was looking a man on mission as he hit unbeaten 29 on 17 deliveries to take Pakistan home with four deliveries left. Saqib Inayat also remained unbeaten on 48 runs, hitting five boundaries in the process thus named man of the match for his match-winning innings. Chief guest Manohar Puniani, President Rotary Club Earlier, Indian played well and piled up a decent total of 165 runs in 27.2 overs with the help of Deepak (37) and Tusar (36). Kashif Nawaz claimed two for 20 while Shujaat Ali Muzaffar got 2-40.
Faridabad, gave away man of the match prize to Saqib.
Fayyaz was mainly responsible for allowing Indians to score extra 25 to 30 runs and then his overcautious batting approach almost cost Pakistan the match as he wasted too many deliveries without even taking singles, the coach who was probably the most luckiest person on earth, despite not selecting a balanced side, too many fielding mistakes and casual approach of his team, Pakistan still managed to win not only the match but the series. The team management must have to seriously think and overcome major flaws in their side if they want to continue this winning streak.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Association chairman Abbas Hashmi, directors Ishfaq Chattha, Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, Naveed Malik, secretary Waqar Ahmed, Sheikh Abdul Waheed, Nisar Mirza, Aamir Ali, Abbas Mumtaz, Rehan, Raja Imran, team manager Nasir and coach M Tahir have congratulated the team on winning the series convincingly.
