Pakistan Test-Fires Long-Range Missile


ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan successfully test-fired a new version of its long-range nuclear-capable missile on Friday, a defense official said.

The ballistic Shaheen missile _ launched from an undisclosed location _ has a range of 1,245 miles. "It successfully hit its target," the official said on the condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

No Pakistani army spokesman was immediately available for comment.

Pakistan and its nuclear-armed neighbor India have fought three wars since the partition of the subcontinent after independence from Britain in 1947.

Pakistan and India first conducted nuclear test explosions in 1998, and often carry out tit-for-tat tests of missiles capable of reaching deep inside each other's territories.

The test came days after Pakistan foreign minister met his Indian counterpart in Delhi and signed an agreement aimed at reducing the risk of accidental nuclear war in the region.

Tension between Pakistan and India - also a nuclear power - has decreased in recent months amid a series of bilateral overtures.

The two powers stepped back from the brink of war after India blamed Pakistan for involvement in an armed attack on the federal parliament in Delhi in 2001."

the Shaheen is a great ballistic missile system but it really isnt a threat to Israel.
israel has the best missile defence system in this world the Arrow. does any body know pakistan is testing 3000 km range shaheen?:flag:
