Last eight matches of PSL 2019 to take place in Pakistan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) will begin on February 14, 2019 in UAE with the final eight matches of the tournament to take place in Pakistan.

The final will take place at the National Stadium in Karachi on March 17.

The Pakistan Super League Governing Council comprising representatives of PCB and all PSL franchises met on Saturday at the National Cricket Academy where PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani presided over the meeting.

A number of key matters were discussed during the meeting which included PCB’s aim of ensuring transparency and working in partnership with all franchises in order to make PSL a bigger success.

It was also decided unanimously that franchise representatives would be a part of bid committees for various upcoming PSL rights. The Chairman welcomed the inclusion of franchises in the decision-making process and highlighted the need to ensure collective growth of all partners.

“PCB and all PSL franchises are partners in this project and I am confident that we will all work together to bring in good numbers for our next rights cycle,” said Mani.

The pick order for the upcoming PSL Player Draft was discussed at the meeting. It was decided that this year’s draft would be based on last year’s rankings with teams being allowed a maximum of 10 retentions. All franchises agreed to introduce a randomized draft order from the fifth edition of the league.

The Governing Council members congratulated Mani on taking charge as chairman PCB and assured him of their full support.

We need to change the venue from Dead pitch country I hate the lifeless wickets in UAE
It is making our players none competitive and bowling is being ruined

Bowlers have lost ability to move the ball

Yes I agree, but we don't have much of a choice.
The only other viable option was Malaysia but weather over there is not very conductive for cricket and not much of a crowd as well.
So we'll have to just pass this tough time and try bringing cricket back home ultimately, instead of shifting somewhere else.

Play in rawalpindi stadium, Not dead pitches here but slow pitch whenever international match. You will see moon at day due to pitch.

LAHORE: Pakistan Super League fans are waiting for the exciting month of cricket as its trade and retention window for this year has now officially commenced.

Player categories for all those local players who were included in the team rosters for PSL season 3 have now been updated.

The process of category renewals took place in the presence of cricket representatives from all six teams, said a spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board here on Saturday.

The PSL will go into action from February, next year in the UAE.

"The list of all such local players who were not involved with any squad during the PSL season 3 will be released separately once finalised by the National Selection Committee," he said.

He said that each PSL squad of 16 comprises three Platinum, three Diamond, three Gold, five Silver and two Emerging players.

Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of 10 players going into this year''s draft.

"As was the case last year, teams reserve the right to float relegation requests for their players before finalising retentions.

After a relegation request is floated, all other teams will be given a chance to meet the player''s base category.

If no team matches the player''s base category, the player will be relegated to a category below his base category and retained by the franchise.

Relegation requests will only be floated after obtaining player consent," he added.

If Games are to be played in Dubai field the pitch need to come from England / Australia import it in with green top or make one .....

Umar Akmal leaves Lahore Qalandars in blockbuster PSL trade
November 03, 2018

Umar Akmal endured a miserable final season for the Qalandars in PSL 3. — File

Beleaguered batsman Umar Akmal and spin wizard Sunil Narine will be moving from Lahore Qalandars to Quetta Gladiators as part of a blockbuster trade between the two Pakistan Super League (PSL) sides.

In return, pace bowler Rahat Ali and young left-arm spinner Hassan Khan have moved from Quetta Gladiators to Lahore Qalandars, said a spokesperson of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday.

“Narine, who played two seasons for the Qalandars in 2017 and 2018, brings a wealth of experience with 299 T20 appearances and 342 wickets across different leagues and tournaments in the world”, he said.

The spokesperson said Umar Akmal's move to Quetta Gladiators marks a new chapter in the talented batsman's T20 career who will be looking to improve on his performances from last year. Akmal, 28, had an unimpressive run last year but his overall tally of 556 runs at a strike rate of 138 in 20 PSL matches brings more batting depth to the Gladiators.

“This deal will also see Lahore taking Quetta's first round Platinum pick and Quetta getting Lahore's Silver round pick in the second round”, he added.

Meanwhile Sameer Rana, COO Lahore Qalandars said “On behalf of the Lahore Qalandars management and fans, we would like to thank Sunil and Umar for their services to the team.

They added tremendous value to the Qalandars and I wish them well on this next chapter in their PSL careers. We are very excited to welcome Rahat Ali and Hassan Khan to the Qalandars family.

Rahat showed what he is capable of with the ball in this format with his excellent bowling last year and Hassan has impressed everyone with his determination and calmness on the field.”

Nadeem Omar, team owner Quetta Gladiators said: “Sunil Narine and Umar Akmal are world class additions to the Gladiators squad ahead of PSL season 4. Sunil Narine is a magician with the ball and one of the best match winners when in T20 cricket.

"Umar Akmal, too, remains one of the most destructive batsmen in Pakistan and he will add much needed firepower to our batting. I would also like to thank Hassan Khan and Rahat Ali for being exemplary ambassadors for Quetta Gladiators. Both these talented cricketers will always have a special place in the Gladiators family. “

either the complete league should be held in UAE or in pak. it is a joke that some matches will be played in pak. many foreign cricketers refuse to come to pak at the last moment and their teams suffer and those matches just look like quaid e azam trophy matches.

Whats with quetta gladiators first they pick ahmed shehzad and now umer akmal.

its time international teams start visiting pakistan, india should lead the way visiting first.
alas, politics will come in between.
pakistan could regain its past glory if it plays in front of its budding potential cricketers. all these huge potential going down the drain.

PCB terminates PSL franchise rights of Multan Sultans

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has terminated the franchise agreement with Schon Properties Broker LLC which granted franchise rights of the Multan Sultans PSL team. As a result of this termination, all rights in respect of the team have now reverted back to PCB.

The termination was brought about due to the former franchisee’s inability to meet its financial obligations under the Agreement.PCB confirms that the fourth edition of PSL will go ahead as planned with six teams and the same number of matches.

The Board shall take complete responsibility of all player and coach contracts. Pending further updates, the team shall be referred to as “The Sixth Team” of PSL.

The team selection for the Sixth Team at the Player Draft scheduled to be held on 20th November 2018 will be done by PCB itself.PCB will thereafter enter into a public tender process— details will be made public soon — to grant repackaged rights of the Sixth Team.

The rights holder would have the option of choosing the sixth franchise city and name.PCB acknowledges that Schon Group is one of the leading groups of Pakistan.

Schon Group has been a partner of PCB for many years in terms of Pakistan Series Sponsorship abroad for many years.

PCB appreciates that Schon Group was the only bidder to meet the Reserve Price ($5.2 million per annum) PCB had set for the sale of the Multan Franchise. This was double the amount for which PCB had in 2015 sold the most valuable PSL Franchise Team.

Asher Schon in particular has worked hard in building the Multan Sultans brand.

Asher Schon stated “It has been a privilege being a PSL team owner over the past year. I am proud of the support Schon has always extended to Pakistan cricket and current affairs notwithstanding, will continue to passionately support it”.

“While this is an unfortunate turn of events, we have to ensure strict adherence to contractual obligations for the well-being of Pakistan Super League. We wish Schon Group well with their future endeavours,” said Mr. Ehsan Mani, Chairman PCB.

“I want to reassure our partners – franchisees, sponsors, players, coaches and fans – that the Pakistan Super League will take place as planned. Our preparations are in full swing starting with the PSL Draft in Islamabad. The 2019 edition of the PSL will be a memorable one with as many as eight matches including the play-offs and the final scheduled to take place in Pakistan.”

PSL season four begins in the UAE with a glittering opening ceremony followed by the opening game on February 14, 2019.

Karachi Kings have released veteran all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi as all six Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises announced the list of retained players for the season four on Tuesday.

The legendary all-rounder — who was also the president of the Karachi Kings — was released by the franchise and will be available in the draft process.

Kings retained left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir, right-handed batsman Babar Azam and Black Caps opening batsman Colin Munro as their Platinum picks with South African all-rounder Colin Ingram moving to Diamond as a player ambassador.

The defending champions Islamabad United have retained all three Platinum players — Luke Ronchi, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf.

With veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez going back into the draft list, Peshawar Zalmi opted for the pace duo of Wahab Riaz and Hassan Ali in their Platinum roster.

Zalmi will Platinum pick to sign their foreign player at the draft process, whereas seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has now moved to Diamond category as a player ambassador.

Quetta Gladiators Platinum retention completed with the arrival of West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine in a blockbuster trade deal with Lahore Qalandars. Star Australian all-rounder Shane Watson now moves to Diamond category as a player mentor.

The sixth team’s retentions included veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik in Platinum and left-arm pacer Mohammad Irfan in Diamond as player ambassador.

Lahore Qalandars — who will have the first pick in this season’s draft — retained opening batsman Fakhar Zaman as their only Platinum player while leg-spinner Yasir Shah was retained in Diamond category.

Teams without ambassadors or mentors may nominate such appointments by close of business on November 13, whereas the player Draft will be held on November 20.

LAHORE: Pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been appointed Lahore Qalandars' Ambassador in the coming edition of the Pakistan Super League, to be held in February next year.
