Pakistan suffered Rs100bn loss due to NATO supplies: PAC told

Tuesday, 22 May 2012 23:23

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) Muhammad Ali Gardezi on Tuesday told the Pubic Accounts Committee (PAC) that Pakistan suffered Rs 100 billion loss due to NATO supplies to Afghanistan via Pakistan but not a single penny was paid to it for repairing the damaged highways. The PAC met here under the chairmanship of Nadeem Afzal Gondal. Members of the committee Abid Sher Ali, Noor Alam Khan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Muhammad Pervaiz malik, Hamid Yar Hiraj, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Saeed Ahmed Zafar, Yasmeen Rehman, Rukhsana Bangish, Noor-Ul- Haq Qadri and Shahnaz Sheikh attended the meeting.

APP,,, blaming all the damage on NATO, why?

Indian goods are still passing through Pakistan as we speak... and no mention of those??????????

NATO shall only take responsibility of 25% while 75% of damge shall be booked to Indian accounts... for the simple reason that Indian goods travel more through Pakistani highways.

An Indian truck arrives back in India at the Wagah border crossing after transporting a shipment of goods to Pakistan. India and Pakistan, still at loggerheads on Kashmir and no closer to a full peace deal, are channelling their efforts into increasing trade in the hope that business can bring them together. © AFP Narinder Nanu

It seems part of the American aid is not given to NHA for road repairment.

That is what i always says? No one in Pakistan have a clue about US aid!!!!
Either it is given as kickback to parliament or its all fabricated piece of paper.

It seems Pakistan is even bigger victim in war against terrorism

You are bringing whole new dimension to discussion.
We are facing violations of contracts of services re-imbursments made by govt. of Pakistan and US.
We have backlogs opened with US as long back as 80's. F-16 saga.

But, Lets keep this thread about damage to Paakistani roads and responsible.

IMO.. NHA officers shall be jailed for overlooking the fact for last 10 years.

Yes you got it, we put nails under the tires, their is a conspiracy to destroy your roads.

we are also paying no transit fees.

By the way 5000$ transit fee was hilarious, do you charge the same locally?

And some people still want to open NATO supplies.

It is not a matter of wanting to or not. It is more a matter of what needs to be done, keeping in mind the larger picture.

But Americans are honest in providing aid, majority of aid goes to army. NHA should also be provided some share of it.

The distribution and uses of any funds received is an internal matter for Pakistan.

Nothing needs to be done ... Time you learn to fight your own wars and deal with Taliban !

The larger picture is that West's economy is done , they have no determination to fight the WoT any longer and planning to abandon in 2014 hoping that some rag tag ANA can take care of the country !

Being more American than Americans themselves , huh ?

Not really , The Coalition Support Fund has been stopped long before the Salalah attack ...

Then why is Pakistan in negotiations over higher rates to reopen the routes?

I see the reports every other day by desperate Western media ... How many times have we learned that the supply routes are about to open soon ? :azn: ... What was your estimate earlier ?

Pay a higher rate for the damage done to Pakistan in this war , just that ...

Has it ever occurred to you that the routes closure carried out for as long as it has already been, only serves to further paint Pakistan as a "problem", without any real advantages. Paying a higher rate will only mean cuts elsewhere, so how does Pakistan come out ahead financially, despite loss of international stature?
