Dubai: Pakistan's hope of automatic World Cup qualification toughened as they plummeted to their lowest-ever rating of 86 after losing the five-match ODI series 1-4 against England.

Despite the four-wicket consolation win in the fifth and final one-dayer on Sunday, Pakistan are in serious danger of failing to qualify automatically for the World Cup 2019 as they are now eight points behind eighth-ranked West Indies.

Pakistan had started the series on 87 points and this is their lowest-ever points tally since the current rankings system was introduced in 2001.

With Pakistan's forthcoming ODI series being against the West Indies and Australia, it has left itself with a mountain to climb to keep alive its chances of qualifying automatically for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

However, Australia and England have consolidated their positions on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings after completing identical 4-1 series victories over their respective oppositions in the series which ended on Sunday.

Australia, who scored a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final match in Pallekele, have moved from 123 points to 124 points, and in doing so, has opened up an 11-point advantage over New Zealand.

They will now aim to reclaim the ICC Champions Trophy title to add to their World Cup trophy, when it is staged next year in the United Kingdom.

Sri Lanka have retained their sixth position but have dropped a point to finish on 101 points.

Sri Lanka's one-point drop will interest seventh-placed Bangladesh, which are now just three points behind their Asian rival and have two upcoming three-match ODI series each against Afghanistan and England coming up.

If Bangladesh wins all the three matches against Afghanistan, plus manages a series win against England, then they will achieve their highest-ever ranking of sixth.

Meanwhile, England, which will attempt to win their maiden 50-over ICC title when they host next year's ICC Champions Trophy, have sent out a warning to the other sides after their impressive series win against Pakistan.

The series result against Pakistan have seen England move from 106 points to 107 points in fifth position three behind India and South Africa, who are at 110 points each with India ranked ahead of South Africa on decimal points.

England and the seven highest-ranked sides on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings as on 30 September 2017 will qualify directly for the ICC's pinnacle 50-over tournament, while the remaining two sides will progress from the 10-team ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018.

Bold part shows that you rear side is on fire because of Test rankings.

Every ranking is temporary in this world including that lowest ODI ranking. So try finding something else to troll.

They got burned to the core when Pakistan became the number one side in the world, we did it the hard way

Our ODI side lacks balance but plays a old brand of ODI cricket of consolidation, and attack towards the final overs etc

We will resolve it because we are Pakistan dint know why the indians get their panties so twisted

Times are tough for Pakistan Cricket, they are not playing much of international cricket, there is no intl cricket in the country, leading to a gap regarding approach towards limited overs game, we are still playing the old way, the techniques and approach is quite different now....Currently PCB should strive for frequent tours if we cannot start cricket in our own country, more matches, more updated the technique of our players is gonna be, but again....its a huge challenge to overcome

pakistan odi team is in a rebuilding phase. the numbers don't shows how pakistan played closed games against other teams recently. this team is young and more talented than any other sides in the world.

Of a few things that i like about pakistan, one is their cricket team. They certainly do not deserve last ranking.

Calm down with the celebrations. This is a very young and inexperienced ODI side. There are many new faces. Let them experiment and gain experience and you'll see the fruits in the coming years. Don't even compare the ODI side with the Test side.

.
the problem is with pak selection board. after a few matches one can easliy judge the capability and talent of any player whether he performs or not. nawaz is a very average spinner, umar gul is an old horse. azhar should be removed from captaincy. sarfaraz or imad wasim have the performance and attitude for this job. hafeez should be sent home permanently and do is wahab riaz.

.
Sharjeel cant play on off side modern game needs a opener which can hit on any side and give a stable platform to team while atleast holding wicket for atleast 10 to 15 first overs
Hafeez , and shoaib only perform in last match in all series so they can say hey we performed in last match we deserve a spot
Azhar should stick to test format unless he wants to increase his strike rate he is following misbha but atleast misbha always gave his team some stability
Wahab is a good bowler but in whole format they were sitting and waiting for batsman to make mistake when they did they dropped catches
A bit of field run will help them
I dont know why fawad isnt in team
Good thing is Pakistani new team is young but they need more all rounders and top order modern batsman
Amir is good , imad is good but others are not that good its just no point

.
Cricket is an unpredictable game you never know what's gonna happen next so we relax

.
Thanks to all those who replied here with strong comments.
I am content that I freaked out many which left all of them hurt and burnt. Thanks all again.

Great job PCB ,,,, the experiment of two or three different teams is doing great and since each captain is reduced in stature as compared PCB's ugly management, that really satisfies their satanic egos.

pakistan will surly get qualified in Top 8, more thn 12 months left to improve just min 1 rank. i hope pakistan do that for sure.

this is stupidity. you cant predict any sports team, they earn a place in Test and they try to come back on ODI's. Life is a circle win and loss/ top or bottom will shift hands always.
