Pakistan should play negotiator's role rather than take part in Yemen war, says Imran

Keep in mind that NS is not the one actually calling shots here. Ultimately it is Gen Raheel Sharif who will decide whether we need to participate in this war or not. And I am at peace of mind knowing that Gen Sharif will decide whatever is best for Pakistan. Of course if it were up to NS, he'd send our entire army to serve KSA.

At the moment it seems like Pakistan is playing it safe. Pledging to "safeguard KSA's territorial integrity" does NOT mean we are going to launch airstrikes on Yemen. It will effectively keep us out of this conflict.

.
The initial reluctance was a show off. Pakistan will definitely join Saudi call for 4 reasons I can think of.
Pak can't irk Saudis
Petrodollars
Break from Zarb e Azb
US also supports it

Please correct me if required?

ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in the National Assembly elucidated Pakistan's role in the Yemen conflict, saying that no decision to participate has been taken and that Pakistan has only pledged to safeguard the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

He stressed on Pakistan's role as 'facilitator' to end the conflicts in the Muslim world.

"Instead of aggravating the situation by participating in it, Pakistan should do what it can to prevent it ─ for the alliance and unity of the Muslim world," the defence minister said. "Pakistan is ready to adopt whatever role is needed in order to facilitate the termination of conflicts in the Islamic world."

"We will not take part in any conflict that could result in differences in the Muslim world, causing fault-lines present in Pakistan to be disturbed, the aggravation of which will have to be borne by Pakistan," he asserted.

The defence minister's statement comes a day after Saudi Arabia said that Pakistan will join its operation against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, for a conflict that is rapidly escalating into a murky civil war. The minister's announcement today apparently rules out Pakistan's immediate participation in the Yemen conflict.

"We want this issue to be resolved in a common forum where the Muslim world or Arab League is involved," said the defence minister. "The need of the hour is alliance and solidarity, not division."

"Division on the basis of religion or sect is rising in Syria, Iraq and Yemen. Instead of conflagration or proliferation ... It should be contained," he added.

"I reiterate, this pledge is for the protection of KSA ... if the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia is threatened then Pakistan will defend it."

He went on to say that no decision to take part in the Yemeni conflict has been made by the government.

"We offered to visit [KSA] so we can assess the situation. The Arab League took up this matter, hopefully they will be able to resolve the matter in a forum. They can also take it to the OIC. We will see what happens in a couple of days. if we have to visit, we will definitely go there."

Corrected.

I'm ok with ~ 10 JF-17s being deployed to maintain the No Fly Zone. No ground troops unless Saudi is facing a credible territorial threat.
Valid points.

However, saying No to a country like KSA when they ask for help will go a long way.

KSA after all has been a long time benefactor including saving NS in his hour of need. Pak leadership has in the past takes such decisions which have put the nation between a rock & a hard place.

Antagonizing Shias internally and in the west on the other hand will create a schism that will be difficult to fill.

All in all, not a good situation to be in.

.
Why even they need you ?
I think their army is capable to defend their country against any threat.

* Pakistan has the largest Military in the Muslim world with long combat experiance.

* We are the most populated country in the region.

* Only Nuclear power in the Muslim world

* We have the largest navy in the Gulf region.

I don't think Pakistan will directly engage unless SA" territorial integrity is under threat. Having Pakistan on board geopolitically means that Iran can be told to exercise restraimt and don't escalate the conflict.

If I were Zionist I wonder how would I be feeling right now..............

One of the things that I liked about Afghans is they would unite against their common enemy and sort out their internal conflicts after dealing with the foreign enemy.

Pakistan should play double game :enjoy: and do a favor to world's Muslims to get rid of both these Ayatollahs and Sauds. If cannot get rid of them at least weaken them so Muslims world wide can unite again.

Anyways I am a conservative Muslim to my core and what is happening was supposed to happen and it will keep happening till times of Dajjal and Imam Mehdi.

Pakistan should play negotiator's role rather than take part in Yemen war, says Imran - The Express Tribune

some times i have a serious concerns on Imran's Political 'Wisdom, because

1. Saudi's using force against rabels not against any State.
2. Saudi's ask help like we ask help from Afghanistan before attacking Talibans.
3. Saudi's helping Yemen's legitimate Government to fight against rabels!
4.and why should we remain neutral between rabels and legitimate Government?

.
wait , somebody plz enlight me what is happening ....there was no electricity for 2 days in our area so no clue what is gooing on?

In simple plain terms Pakistanis here are discussing whether "Jihad is Farz" When Iranian Ayyatollahs say or it is when Saudis say. And Pakistani government is examining which Fatwa is more credible............:enjoy:

What is sense in fighting others wars?

Did KSA sent its air force and troops in fighting Zarb-e-Azb. Where is Pak dignity?
KSA has Makkah and Madinah and we would defend KSA at any cost even if it means going for offensive against others

.
army should away from this dirty game
we already facing difficulties in waziristan and Baluchistan and the situation in karachi is also very serious
sending army means more violence in Pakistan
We can't stay out of this Saudia is involved in this directly we can't stay out no chance and in this all Sunni World including Turkey is now with Saudia

Army has to do what Nawaz say because he came with guarantee from US and KSA and Army is unable to deny any order from US and simple stop help saud and forget about cheap oil and other stuff no doubt KSA has helped us but we are not in condition to side with anyone we have a shia minority and sunni majority i will never like to see my land to meet fate like Syria and Iraq so say no to sectarian war @syedali73
Army when want deny order from every one. Mr and this time USA has nothing to do with it its just KSA showing its muscle and we have get involved at least know things.

Every man outside government says many things Modi did same so did Nawaz but realities are way different

Liberal idiots need to keep there mouth shut and I hope Shias in Pakistan remain quite for this time other wise they will loose most sympathy and now for the alliance even Turkey is part of it we can't stay out we have to send Air Force and may be 10000 Troops but we have to also put pressure on Iran to stop supporting Houthis and put pressure on Houthis to start talks and form National Government and help Yemen develop its Armed Forces which just like Yemeni population has majority Sunnis in it

As an outsider to Islamic politics I am little bit surprised and confused too after reading your post. You told that Pakistan must join in this war but not clarified the reasons why Pakistan should involve in this ME mess? Some probable reasons are coming in my mind as follows-

a. Friendship with Saudi - You are ready to sacrifice the life of your citizen for friendship although Soudi never supported you like that during our wars
b. Muslim Ummah : Here both sides are Muslims
c. Sunni brotherhood : In that case why you are asking Pakistani Shias to support this war? You are ready to alienate 20% of your population for some unknown cause
d. Iran is your enemy too : Verbally nobody from Pakistani establishment accepted that till date.
e. Outsourcing Army : Like India positioned herself as an outsourcing hub for IT professionals, you want to position yourself as a outsourcing hub for defense related matter. You are ready to earn money as a nation by lending your army for some professional fees. ( It may be a good business proposition indeed)
f. Saudi lives are costlier than Pakistani lives: You are ready to sacrifice Pakistani army men to protect precious lives of Saudi armymen .

Which one is true? or there is any other reason?

Friendship with Saudi Arabia and protection of Makkah and Madinah both side are Muslims but those who create fasad in state Islam orders are clear for them finish them so Zaidis instead of becoming part are trying to overtake a country which has majority Sunnis I mean Yemen Iran is not our enemy but we won't allow Iran to mess with entire Sunni world. Iran is not USA if it thinks that way than it has to be reminded of what it is best way is to send War Jets teach houthis a lesson and on diplomatic front together with Sunni World put pressure on Iran to stop supporting Houthis and put pressure on them to start talk
