Pakistan shells hit inside Afghanistan

An Afghan police official says Pakistan has launched a blistering artillery assault on eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, where a self-declared affiliate of the Islamic State group is based.

Gul Agha Roohani, provincial police chief of Nangarhar, tells The Associated Press in Kabul that Pakistan fired several artillery rounds early on Friday into the province's Lalpur district, near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

There was no immediate comment from Pakistan, where a suicide bombing on Thursday killed 75 people and wounded scores more at a Sufi shrine in southern Sindh province.

The attack was claimed by the Islamic State group.

However, Pakistan says Thursday's attack and other recent bombings have been masterminded by militants who hide across the border and use sanctuaries in Afghanistan.

If message is what we intend to do than start firing those damn cruise missiles we have on Kabul. Or at the very least those tail choppers that were equipped with the latest JF-17, how about letting those strike inside Afghanistan. Firing shells is not an operation. Even Iran fires mortar shells into Pakistani side every week. Something more is needed.

We need to infiltrate these mofos. Clearly the Afghan security forces if not complicit are incompetent to do anything about this lot. Up to our security forces to take the necessary action. Shelling will only dislocate them and push them further inlands, only for them to return again a couple of weeks later.

Nangarhar and Nuristan are launching pads areas of militants. Most of the TTP militants enter from these places and even cross border raids on hit and run basis are performed from here against our security forces. We need to send troops there.
