These weren't strayed-off mortars. This was a coordinated artillery precision-bombardment on IS positions.

Yes but im still against airstrikes inside afghanistan, we should keep it low profile with special opps and precision guided artillery, the most we should go with is drine strikes..

An Afghan police official says Pakistan has launched a blistering artillery assault on eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, where a self-declared affiliate of the Islamic State group is based.

Gul Agha Roohani, provincial police chief of Nangarhar, tells The Associated Press in Kabul that Pakistan fired several artillery rounds early on Friday into the province's Lalpur district, near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

There was no immediate comment from Pakistan, where a suicide bombing on Thursday killed 75 people and wounded scores more at a Sufi shrine in southern Sindh province.

The attack was claimed by the Islamic State group.

However, Pakistan says Thursday's attack and other recent bombings have been masterminded by militants who hide across the border and use sanctuaries in Afghanistan.

Pakistan need heavily armed gunship to keep on striking there region. These type of temporary strike has no impact on such organization. They usually moved somewhere else in the mountain. Constant drone surveillance .

1- Pakistan should provide concrete proofs to Afghan Govt, through involving International institutions. ( useless but we have to do it),
2- Pakistan should point out the areas where afghan govt have no rit (though world already know about those areas but for paper work we have to do it)
3- and later engage those areas through air raids and intelligence based operations.
with these steps it will be easy to handle the political consequences later.

Artillery you fucking kidding me, i mean wtf? Do we want this to be another Indian style sir ji kal strike. If message is what we intend to do than start firing those damn cruise missiles we have on Kabul. Or at the very least those tail choppers that were equipped with the latest JF-17, how about letting those strike inside Afghanistan. We want the Afghanistan to lit up and not some half hearted artillery strike just to give this failed impression that we are actually doing something for a change.

Artillery is usually used for softening of hard targets before spec ops with support of other military elements move in to take out hiden targets.
