ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday dispatched a ship carrying around 15,000 tons rice to Cuba as gratitude for Cuban support to Pakistan after 2005 earthquake.

The decision to this effect was taken under the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who has said that Pakistan would extend all possible assistance and help to Cuba, said a PM House statement.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan was reciprocating in the same spirit as Cuba had done by sending teams of doctors after strong earthquake hit our country in 2005.

The ship carrying the rice included 10,000 tons of Irri 6 and 5,000 tons of Basmati rice. – APP

Cuban health delegation provided 80,000 people with medical treatment, 7,000 surgeries at 32 field hospitals and two camps for refugees, many of which were settled in the areas most affected by the earthquake. We thank Cubans and we wish to strengthen our relations.

Well done and appreciated. Cuba is a great country with superb people. Been there 4 times and it is the people who i appreciate the most. Unlike any central/south american country.

They consume a lot of rice and have their own cultivars. I dont know the exact name but it is a semi long grain and very similar to a basmati but not as aromatic.

Love the gesture but charity begins at home. We should take care of the starving in our own back yard first
Yes that is correct. But the Cubans could have turned their backs when the earthquake hit. They had doctors in the afflicted areas when not even your local doctors or govt first aid providers where no where to be seen. Furthermore they stayed for months on end.
Cuba is a very poor country and its people are its wealth; they got nothing in return for their assistance. If I may say where were your allies in terms of providing such aid.

This is just a small token of gratitude to say Thank You to Cuba for their untiring efforts during 2005 earthquakes in Pakistan.

Syria? Yes of course we should help Syria. But people have very short memories.

These Cubans treated nearly one lakh people in Pakistanis tragedy. Furthermore there medical teams stayed in pak for 6 months and treated countless people. And then even invited people to Cuba from that area to train as doctors.

Don't be ungrateful, repay a good deed tenfold
