Senator A Rehman Malik, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior, has taken serious notice of the matter regarding seizure of an Iranian ship at the Port Qasim, Karachi, over its involvement in oil smuggling into Pakistan.
According to a statement on Friday, Malik said that seizure of an Iranian ship, smuggling oil, was a serious international issue which might bring Pakistan under pressure as the smugglers had not respected the Pakistani law and sanctions on Iran.

A notice issued to the interior ministry stated that this ship had been intercepted by an American watchdog, which had informed the government of Pakistan for legal action against the importers, exporters and the refinery involved.

The notice quoted media reports as saying that the ship’s papers were forged. It asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to coordinate with the collector Custom Karachi to provide full detail and briefing to the committee on the matter.

The notice asked the FIA to provide a copy of the report of the American watchdog, copy of the forged documentation and its forensic report from an independent lab, details of the Importer in Pakistan and the middle man involved in this deal.

It also asked the FIA to investigate any past allegation on this Importer for bringing substandard or illegal diesel and crude oil to Pakistan and provide to the committee the list of all those supplying sub-standard diesel, crude oil and other petroleum products, and details of the cases registered for smuggling at Port Qasim.

Malik directed FIA director general to coordinate with the Collector Custom, Karachi, to provide briefing to the committee as to who was responsible and the details of the FIR as per the complaint and details of the smuggling/fraud done with the government of Pakistan in case of the Iranian ship.

Cheap oil below the market threshold is welcome!

But that profit goes into the pockets of smugglers and they charge for current rate in the market. After all, smuggling is a crime and this particular kind hurts the national treasury more. They have been smuggling through land route and found a new way by forging documents like this.

subsidized Iranian oil and gasoline is much cheaper then prices in pakistan and afghanistan.

untill this fact remains. there will be alot of smugglers making a fortune off this trade.

.
We should smuggle oil in and smuggle Senator Malik out. Obviously we are being controlled by the Zion IMF and their poodles within our country.

.
Rehman Malik and that American watchdog lol. He's a slave and we all know that.

.
It was not identified at Port Qasim, it was at SBM owned by Byco. And Byco has had a history of shady dealings and wrongful declaration.

They bring in refined product labelled as crude, pass it through the units and voila. You get subsidy, refining margins, retail benefits and some serious $$$$$$

it appears that the ship was operating with knowledge of Pakistani authorities and this time the Americans spoiled the steady income stream for our the people in cost guards or customs and excise.
I am aware of people smuggling drums of fuel from Iran via the deserts in Baluchistan in pickup trucks but that is nothing compared to an entire ship.

as far as Rehman Malik is concerned he is overtly on foreign payroll he will say and do things as his western handlers command. the issue is keeping pressure on Iran.

PS on side note to everyone
please be assured that you will be thread banned and issued warnings if you bring your bigoted views and sectarianism in this thread and respond to any such provocation.

His reaction given his appointment for long time but remain out of screen, speaks volume that how is trying to involve Pakistan as well. Furthermore, you are right on account of smuggling through land route Balochistan. This seems to be well designed documentation by private known importer being in business earning double from Government and buying cheap as well.

could it not be that....somewhere up there is a silent agreement to allow it!

Cheap because of no duties and no taxes to the government.
obviously if it can be done in a way that the necessary excise goes to treasury then it should be welcome.

I just want to add. Petroleum products don't discriminate:D:D! Until EV become the standard we need cheap oil.

That will be the last resort if Pakistan was supposedly bank corrupt or there were no bounding of international law by us. It cannot be allowed by somewhere up there having a silent agreement given the checks & all threats to Pakistan as well as Iran. There are far more bigger smugglers in Private Sectors somehow under umbrella of certain politicians though and they could have allowed such practices in past for their own set of interests but not from State prospective.

Yes but this oil is than sold at state sanctioned price, so no relief to general public.
However in Balochistan smuggled Irani oil is sold cheap but its quality is bad.
