Pakistan seeks world help

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday sought the international community’s help for stopping the United States from carrying out drone attacks inside Pakistan. The president told foreign ambassadors at a dinner that Pakistan had joined the anti-terror war for its own security but the US drone attacks were proving detrimental to its efforts. Besides French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese and Russian ambassadors, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Interior Adviser Rehman Malik and Finance Adviser Shaukat Tareen also attended the dinner. staff report

Zardari woos EU, Russia to halt drone attacks


ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tuesday asked leading European nations and Russia to play their proactive role in halting the US drone attacks on Pakistani soil, which were counterproductive to the efforts in the war on terrorism.

Talking to the ambassadors of the leading European Union (EU) and Russia at dinner hosted in their honour here at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Asif Ali Zardari urged them to help convince the US to stop its missiles strikes from the predators on Pakistani side of Afghan border.

Whose eyes are Zardari and Co trying to blindfold??? Everyone knows that USA dont care about what Europe or Russia says, especially in this matter. Zardari is just trying to tell that he is not responsible for the US strikes! Its a lame excuse, Zardari should resign! (Am I talking like a member of the Opposition )

Damn, I hate the way Zardari is portraying our nation as "helpless" and "desperate" right now, what a shame.
If he had a FIRM stance from the beginning, and not with his bullcrap speech of "we will not tolerate any violation of our sovereignty in the war on terror" with his big talk.
He couldn't keep his word and was too afraid as usual, this is a shame for our nation.

Well these drone attacks is proving more counter productive.. and are making more foot soliders for these Talibani group. I think american and pakistani troops jointly need to tackle them through a ground offensive.. rather than using drones and killing many innocents. and the lead should be given to the pakistani army!!!

I hate how Zardari and his Ministers are making Statements like "we don't have the ability to shoot down these UAV" and "we are Helpless", Nobody is gonna help us not even Russia and EU, They are Working For American Interest as well. We have to take Matters in our Hands now and Let that be a Lesson For USA, Lets Make Pakistan a Vietnam For USA and Another Iraq for Obama.

Very well said, these cries from Zardari only portray Pakistan as a weak state which is unable to stand up for herself.
Just take these drones down and shoot at any American purpetrators on Pakistani soil.
The message should be clear, with the weak attitude of the government, the Americans will seize this opportunity to carry out different strikes or moves in the future when it comes to Pakistan, because the U.S. realises that the Pakistani government(s) were usually afraid and easily manipulated into accepting these attacks.

If the Pakistani government is unable to act accordingly on the violation of our sovereignty by the U.S., then what can assure the Pakistani people that the GoP will act accordingly on any violation from Indian side?
I'm not too sure, this government better act soon or else it will loose the credibility (if it has any) among the Pakistani public.

It is hard for Zardari to give shoot down instructions. His first priority is to stay the course on the NRO to save his US$ 1.50 b looted wealth, and to possibly milk Pakistan some more.

The forces chiefs have to evolve a consensus on this national disgrace, for a change.. even if it is one time change. They just got Nothing to Lose.

Drones have a low radar cross section, but a huge propeller, Radars will have to be operated in the optimized mode for this specific type of traffic. The Amy / levies posts in Waziristan too will get a more interesting observer mission.

Pakistan need not use any first line fighter for this purpose; FT-5’s or K-8 equipped with Cannon is enough. If USAF provides top cover to the drones with F-15’s that will be an unprecedented escalation; then all bets are off and sky is the limit.

The US will realize within a few weeks that bullying alone does not work forever. Pakistan is very well in a position to teach them what a REAL rogue State looks like!!!
