Pakistan has sought the United States’ help in curbing cross-border attacks from Afghanistan while assuring that its territory would not be used to destabilise any neighboring country.

The issue came under discussion during the meeting of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who was acting as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s special envoy, with the US National Security Adviser Lt Gen McMaster at the White House on Tuesday.

The US role in resolving Kashmir issue, defence ties between the two countries and release of CIA spy Shakeel Afridi were among the issues discussed during the meeting.

“We assured the United States that our territory will not be used against any country. We also make it clear that we expect no other country would be allowed to support terrorism inside Pakistan,” Dar told journalists at Pakistan Embassy after his meeting with Gen McMaster.

He referred to recent attacks inside Pakistan. “We have intelligence report that these attacks were planned across the boarder,” he said. The minister said that Pakistan wanted end to Afghan conflict through a political process led by Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan wanted to end stalemate in its ties with the United States and hoped that new Trump administration will further strengthen bilateral relations based on mutual respect. He said the issue of Shakeel Afridi, an alleged CIA spy detained in Pakistan over charges of treason, came under discussion during his meeting with the top US official. The minister said government would not compromise on national interest.

The minister hoped that the ties between the two countries would now improve and Pakistan’s concerns would be accommodated in Trump administration’s review of South Asia policy.

During the meeting, the minister also highlighted Pakistan’s success on economic and security fronts and called for enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries. “The meeting ended at a very positive note,” he said. To a question about Panama probe, he said the ministry had nothing to do with nomination of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) members.

He said the government would fully cooperate with JIT team and implement the decision of the Supreme Court. He said appointment of General (R) Raheel Sharif as head of 34-member coalition force was an honour for Pakistan. He said the matter was no more controversial as Raheel Sharif was no more heading Pakistan Army.

“It was controversial when he was chief of Pakistan Army to appoint him head of coalition force. The prime minister did not accept the request at that time. But now General (R) Raheel was fully independent,” he said.

To another question, he said that the government was considering replacing Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi instead of sacking him from the post in DawnLeaks case.

“Change of portfolio is no big deal as it is an administrative decision,” he said. Talking about PanamaLeaks case, Dar said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name was not in the list and that the JIT would be constituted according to the law.

Dar termed his meetings with IMF, World Bank officials and finance ministers of other countries productive. He said the GDP growth over five percent would be achieved during the current fiscal year.

The minister informed that Pakistan Infrastructure Bank will be established with the help of International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide loan for development projects to private companies. The paid-up capital for the bank would be $1 billion.

He invited overseas Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan Development Fund which would offer shares worth $1 billion to them. He said Pakistan would be able to get cheapest solar power with the help of international institution in near future.

You say it nonetheless, and keep saying.
Diplomacy is power if you use it. Unfortunately NS govt has all of their assets outside and they cant forcefully pursue in Pak interests.

Will someone please tell me why Ishaq Dar (the economic hitman) was meeting with US NSA?

Why was Ishaq Dar deputized to be a special envoy to US when Pakistan has a newly-minted ambassador to US? And shouldn't Pakistan's NSA Janjua be talking to his US counterpart than Dar, who may be experienced in finance, but matters of foreign policy, national security, and terrorism? Why wasn't Sartaj Azia or Tariq Fatemi with him? Interesting.

It would be a mistake to overplay this MOAB attack as some kind of change in policy. US has taken out members of TTP and other anti-Pakistan groups before, but only to slap Pakistan later. This is the same carrot and stick approach US has had toward Pakistan. In my opinion, this MOAB was a demonstration of the Trump administration will do. It's was a signal, not just to ISIS, but anyone opposed to US interests.

Get the indians out and see terrorism vanish from Pak Soil.

The empire needs the indians there... so it is what it is.

Sorry, but Balochistan has always been a restive province; and Afghanistan has always been antagonistic towards Pakistan; and Iran also plays its part in stirring the pot in the region -- with or without India.

ooh an other innocent indian... we know who supported BLA/BRA and JA in pak , most probably Jaishal Adl militant group in iran is also being supported by india...

indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav network had been operating since 15 years... and iran/pakistan got a gift(terrorism) from india.. Passport of kulbhushan Jadhav was made in india not in iran but as always they found few traitors in muslims.
U.S allowed India to operate in Afghanistan with Indian Agencies.... for what? for good wishes?
india achieved nothing in afghanistan except spreading proxies in pakistan and now in iran bit by bit...

once upon a time modi said.. "we will fight against pakistan till the last afghan"..

No need to get help from anywhere. With the arrest of disgraced Indian terrorist monkey (commander kulbhushan jadhav) and after busting his terrorist network, ISI should have a huge job of busting, cleaning, and mopping up Indian assets in Afghanistan. The recent arrest of the terrorist Monkey's partner, the filthy pig who used to be spox man of Indian created terrorist group TTP, should have uncovered more terrorists lined up for busting by the ISI. It is a self sustaining process aimed at cleaning our region by eliminating terrorists. I mean show the world that it is only Indian terrorism in this region quite contrary to the Indian lies and deception of being the victim of terrorism. It would be nice if more Indians could also be nabbed or eliminated and then the evidence shown to the world as the proof of Indian terrorism. I remember we used to get prize from officials by killing wild pigs and bring their tails as proof. In a similar manner kill the Indian terrorist masterminds and show the evidence to world to expose the ugly face of Indians and their disgusting lies.

So Pakistan wants US to help end cross boarder attacks, what a joke. US is behind all those attacks so how can she help us? US with India is carrying out all attacks across Pakistan to destabilize Pakistan and affect Chinese economic growth. It's a dream that will never come to pass. China is the economic giant and along with Russia and Pakistan, they'll dissolve many states of US. US is almost financially broke. The fate of USSR will be repeated, this time it would be US at the receiving end. R.I.H

Who says anybody's arse is on fire? It was an observation on how Pakistan operates on the diplomatic front. For India, Pakistan's incompetence in this area is only to its benefit. :D

Indians presence in Afghanistan is working more towards destroying Afghanistan and American dreams in Afghanistan than destabilizing Pakistan... the quicker Americans realize this ... the better
