NAYPYITAW, MYANMAR: Pakistan is “seeking clarification” about a US drone strike against Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday, after US officials said Mansour was likely killed in an air strike on Pakistani soil.

“I have seen the reports. We are seeking clarification,” Nafees Zakaria said in a statement. He added that Pakistan wanted the Taliban to return to the negotiating table to end the long war in Afghanistan. “Military action is not a solution,” he added.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was notified of the air strike which took place a day earlier, but declined to elaborate on the timing of the notification.

Kerry further said that Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour posed a “continuing imminent threat” to US personnel in Afghanistan and to Afghans, and was a threat to peace.

US officials in Washington said on Saturday US missile-firing drones had attacked Mansour and probably killed him in a strike in southwest Pakistan, near the Afghan border, authorised by US President Barack Obama.

Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mansour ‘killed’ in US drone strike in Pakistan

“Yesterday, the United States conducted a precision air strike that targeted Taliban leader Mullah Mansour in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Mansour posed a continuing, imminent threat” to US personnel and Afghans, Kerry told a news conference in the Myanmar capital.

“This action sends a clear message to the world that we will continue to stand with our Afghan partners as they work to build a more stable, united, secure and prosperous Afghanistan.”

Kerry said the leaders of both Pakistan and Afghanistan were notified of the air strike but he declined to elaborate on the timing of the notifications, which he said included a telephone call from him to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Peace is what we want. Mansour was a threat to that effort and to bringing an end to the violence and suffering people of Afghanistan have endured for so many years now. He was also directly opposed to the peace negotiation and to the reconciliation process,” Kerry said.

actually timing of drone attacks always make pakistan worried.
whenever Pakistan starts a peace process , American hit the major one and taliban again go for war. We saw it numerous times that it happens .

May God help Afghan & Pak people now as they have to pay taliban revenge now

.
Good ! if war was the only solution for AFG Americans tried it ,Russian tried it ,real solution for Afg is talks and all stake holders to be part of it ,We as Pak wants to see stabilize and neutral Afg but If Afg thinks this way that killing each other is a good reason then be it ,we will see Tamasha from walls behind this time . Good luck

Wait a sec. Isn't Pakistan “fighting" the Taliban as the “frontline state" in the war on terror? Death of this vermin should be a cause of rejoice for them.. No?? o_O

Most of them are shocked, many sad...

And many hypocrites here pretend that he was an 'Angel of Peace'; we already confirmed our stance on peace with Taliban, there won't be any peace with them they will be killed in every corner of the country and even 'outside'.

. . . .
Pakistan se ab toh koi umeed hi nahi bachi.
Some great deeds by Afghanistan:
1) Only country that voted against Pakistan's membership in the UN in 1948.
2)Attacked Pakistan in the 60s to change the Durand Line forcefully and so violated Pakistan's sovereignty
but was beaten back by Pakistani Pushtuns.

O bhai, every time a Taliban leader is killed in Afghanistan, it costs hundreds of US , Pakistani and Afghani lives. Thats why we are trying our level best to bring them on talks but every time we do that, either India or USA farts aloud, and every body else takes a new start.
Now, keep my words, Mullah Akhter was far more better, as he was relatively soft personality for all parties. Now again, we are waiting for new Taliban chief.
Sometimes I wonder that USA dont want to exit Afghanistan. Or even if USA wants, India will not let it happen.

Question is why US never touched mullah radio

USA do not want peace in region remember history says whenever foreigners ruled the majority of that land bloodshed never ended untill those foreginers out

This afghan govt is not afghanistan own people

Above it USA made a biggest mistake I hope pakistan should now cut off itself from any afghan related issues and let taliban kick their asses and when us asks for help next time to fix meeting with talibans than ask them bring mansur back
