Pakistan secures $400 million rice export pact with Indonesia

Interesting. Indonesia is in short of rice? I though warm place is never short of rice.

.
Interesting development as we usually import rice from Thailand. Maybe politics is played as well to favor Pakistan products.

I am surprised Indonesia is importing rice from anyone. From what I know Indonesia is itself a major rice producer.

And FYI, Thailand's Jasmine rice is a very different variety from Pakistan's Basmati. They look, taste and smell different.

May be the demand is greater then they are producing and they always import rice from Thailand

I was told that in middle eastern areas, well cooked rice means no two grains sticking together. Is that true in Pakistan?

Yes, and its easier to do with Basmati as it has a different consistency from other rice varieties.

we are import rice from everyone though, China, India, Thailand, Vietnam, now Pakistan

so far this import is to keep the inflation stay low, as rice prices is usually rising up because ever increasing demands rather than compared to our increasing production and so we ended up need to import

In China, it is actually the opposite. Except fried rice, cooked rice, if grains don't stick (as long as not too sticky), is considered poor quality. It would be what my dad used to call "early crop rice". In southern China, it is possible to have 3 crops of rice each year. The last one is usually the best and has some stickiness. The early one is of poor quality because it grows very fast.

Last time my dad visited me, I bought some Indian Basmati rice. He hated it for this reason.

The way rice is eaten in both the cultures is different. In east most often you eat rice and meat or vegetables separately. You mix them in the mouth. In SA culture you mix curry with rice before you place it in mouth. That is why loose grains will be easier to mix than sticky ones.

That's indian culture .. It doesn't happen in Pak,Afghanistan or probably even in Nepal...
In Pak & Afghanistan... Except for the usual pulses&beans .. Rice is prepared with meat, vegetables and raisins... Sometimes cooked by placing it in the body of a lamb etc... Or in case of meat gravies served with brown salted rice (fried).. It's mixed in the plate .. We don't use hands either .. That would only happen if utensils aren't available ...

Pakistani rice is actually bought by Indian middlemen and labelled as Indian rice and sold to third parties ...
All due to shitty policies of our govts... Else Pak is one of the largest rice producing nations.

Forget poltics Bro. You won't even look at Thai rice after you taste ours. I have tasted both. I just hope they don't screw up in quality control during export. When Pakistani rice is cooking you can tell the moment you enter home filled with sweet aroma.
