The Foreign Office statement comes a day after US President Donald Trump broke news of the accord. — File

Pakistan on Friday said a US-brokered deal between the United Arab Emirates and Israel to fully normalise their diplomatic relations could have "far-reaching implications", but stressed that its future approach on the issue would be guided by how Palestinians' rights are upheld.

"We have noted the joint statement announcing agreement of UAE and Israel to have full normalisation of relations. This is a development with far-reaching implications," a statement issued by Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said, a day after US President Donald Trump broke news of the accord.

The statement said Pakistan has "an abiding commitment to the full realisation of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people", including their right to self-determination, while peace and stability in the Middle East are also Islamabad's key priority.

Timeline: Israel, UAE deal follows years of failed peace initiatives

"For a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, Pakistan has consistently supported a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant UN and OIC resolutions as well as international law," the press release added.

It emphasised that "Pakistan’s approach will be guided by our evaluation of how Palestinians’ rights and aspirations are upheld and how regional peace, security and stability are preserved" following the signing of the agreement.

On Thursday, Israel and the UAE announced they had agreed to normalise their relations, in only the third such accord Israel has struck with an Arab country.

The deal sees Israel pledge to suspend its planned annexation of Palestinian lands, a concession welcomed by European and some pro-Western Arab governments as a boost for hopes of peace.

But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed Israel was not abandoning its plans to one day annex the Jordan Valley and Jewish settlements across the occupied West Bank.

Announced by Trump via Twitter, the accord raised the prospect of similar deals with other pro-Western Gulf states.

The Palestinian leadership rejected the deal as a “betrayal” of their cause, saying they would withdraw their ambassador from the Emirates.

Actually , Pakistan can't support any such type of action, because Jinnah was the biggest supporter of Palestinian freedom and there rights. And has many speeches and lots of article signed and documented by Jinnah. So, this FO statement pretty much covers Quaid's dream.... And non govt in Pakistan will cross this line, even Musharraf was so much pushed, but he stayed away....

Creating the problem in the first place and solving it, gets rewarded. No wonder Arabs are being ripped off.

. .
Here was Pakistan asking why GCC or OIC doesn't bring Kashmiri cause to the fore ... but here the other shoe has dropped! They basically said we don't even care for historic Muslim gripe of Palestinians much less Kashmiris.

Question is, where do these organizations stand now? Total accreditation has come to a naught! Unless, Saudis want Pakistanis to follow suit there isn't much left to decipher which camp they stand...

The Statement, as has been the history of Pakistan's foreign policy since Pakistan's formation, is a consistent, clear manifestation of Pakistan's position viz a viz the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: A clear support for the Palestinians without the bombast of the typical Middle Eastern leaders (and they include Iran and Turkey, btw!).

Related to this: When Israel recently declared it's intention to 'annex' the West Bank, Pakistan came out strongly, but in a measured tone against that. While India did the typical diplomatic dance where even (or especially??) the Scandinavian countries came hard on Israel.

India, under Modi, is the most self-serving, the most opportunistic nation on Earth right now! There are NO PRINCIPLES, NO LOYALTIES, NO SENSE OF DECENCY left in the modern India, so long as the 'profit above all' mentality persists. But the world is watching. You can easily be clever by half!

I don’t understand how people here equate money with being correct. The Gulf countries befriending Israel are wrong. Period. The PA have been an enforcer of the zionist occupation since Oslo. They do not represent Palestinians. Period. When Hamas won elections fair and square, the PA (Fatah) refused to give up power. They are no better than that midget thug Sisi.

Pakistan has the right position. Yes we rely on remittances from the gulf. So our position is difficult. However that does not necessitate Pakistanis from speaking the truth. Which is...Israel is an occupying force without legal or moral standing. They are no different than India in Kashmir. Just because we have economic concerns does not mean our policy position is wrong.

Furthermore, if all the Arab countries do the wrong thing it does not absolve us of our obligation to what is right.

The Key to destroying Israel is neutralising the USA which means China holds them off which means their backyard aka India must be cleaned up.

Yes.
Very few people remember the history of the 'democratic' elections held by the Palestinians! But then...if one of the then Superpowers of the World, the French, found enough collaborators to form the Vichy Regime--then the poor Palestinians have no shortage of 'pragmatic' people.

As a side note: The United States supports perhaps the most brutal autocratic suffocating country in the world called the KINGDOM of Saudi Arabia and then it courts India et al into an 'alliance of democracies'.

Do official words mean anything? Are we still living in the Stone Age of Information???

Plus, the question of self-determination is directly linked with Kashmir issue. Our top leader already laid the foundation for the future leader to avoid any hypocrisy , which can damage Kashmir cause.
