I'm a big fan of AQ Khan's service to Pakistan, however, the amount stated by him seems crazy low. During the 80's and 90's, security of AQ Khans house in E7 + his protocol cars + etc's, I bet cost more than USD25M per annum.

Islamabad is spending $2.5 billion each year on nuclear arms operations. A March assessment by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons said the South Asian state last year spent $2.2 billion on its deterrent.

The "smuggling" was a gigantic hogwash, nothing of the sort happened from any of the specialist facilities. The only smuggling going on was couple of "measurement" instruments, few here, few there, that were being imported from abroad, nothing EVER left for outside. There was nothing illegal on "our" part, as we were not signatories to NPT, so were never culpable for any wrong-doing. Want to blame someone? Blame the ones who were signatories and exporting under the radar! Besides, you know very well the definition of "dual usage items", if you go by that definition, then even my ****/sh*t can be made to look as it has some sort of relation to a future nuclear program, you know what I am saying.....

The story was like this: We had an excellent "procurement" network for these small insignificant items, they, in the West couldn't detect it, they pushed and cornered Mushy, the bastard caved-in and gave AQ as a trophy (khwa-m-khwa). The network was ours for sure, however, it was IMPORTING stuff, very insignificant stuff - mind you not breaking any treaty!

I respect Dr. AQ Khan very much, and will always be respectful for his contribution and services for Pakistan. Having said this, I really dislike his "self-praising" & "self-centered" approach. The sensitivity of his stature demand a low profile for him (considering the kinds of threats to him), but he really like to be in media lime-light. His involvement in politics (in my view) is not right and every now a then he made a controversial statement, which don't do any good for Pakistan's nuclear interests.

p.s: If he has formed a political party and is into practical politics, he should maintain a distance from his past i.e. being a nuclear scientist. That will be good for him as well as for Pakistan.

USD2.5 Billion = 25% of our total defense spending. If I remember correctly, our defense budget is something around USD10B.

$2.5 Billion is almost 0.5% of Pakistan's total defence spending in 2011-2012. IMO that is a pretty neat figure too.

AQ Khan should really stop doing these publicity stunts.

Ma man that is the total GDP of Pakistan, that too adjusted to PPP (otherwise it's WAY WAY LESS)... the 12% increase is in the total % increase on the previous year, mostly to nullify the affects of inflation - in layman words: to account for devaluation of rupee.

Ma man that is the total GDP of Pakistan, that too adjusted to PPP (otherwise it's WAY WAY LESS)... the 12% increase is in the total % increase on the previous year, mostly to nullify the affects of inflation - in layman words: to account for devaluation of rupee.

One A.Q.Khan is worth a million times more than the entire herd of donkeys we have in our parliament in his service to pakistan.
Regarding nuclear leakage. He would have only passed on what the people above wanted him to.
A.Q khan couldn't take a leak without big daddy above knowing. Though very sad he was made a scapegoat.

25millions is not even enough to pay the salaries let alone the +100 warheads maintenance cost.alone the yellow cake uranium for our plants cost more than 25millions

For many countries, the nuclear budget isn't part of the national defence budget.
