Pakistans defence made invincible, says Dr AQ Khan
Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, father of the nuclear programme in Pakistan, said that Pakistan had a strong nuclear programme and the defence of the country had been made invincible and no one could dare cast an evil eye on us.
He was speaking at the inauguration of Ihsan Hall at District Public School Renala Khurd on Saturday.
He said that he was abroad when India conducted the atomic explosion and it was shock for me. I felt that the Pakistani nation could not bear more grief and shocks. I wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, asking him to start the atomic programme and turn the country into a nuclear power. On the call of ZA Bhutto, I returned to Pakistan and started the atomic programme, he reminded.
The great scientist disclosed that he had collected Rs45 million for different institutions, but nobody asked him for a receipt.
Elaborate arrangements had been made on the occasion. The participants accorded a rousing welcome to the father of the nuclear programme in Pakistan on his arrival.
When Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan stood to address the gathering, he was escorted to the bulletproof rostrum, but he refused to address the people from there. He said that he would address the people in an ordinary manner as he had led his life surrounded by dangers and risks. Now I have no fear for my life, he maintained.
DCO Babar Shafi Chaudhry, Gen (Retd) Ghulam Muhammad Malik, Muhammad Usman, Nabeel Jafferi, Naila Asghar and DPS Principal Perveen Malik and Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Ihsan also spoke on the occasion.
INP adds: Dr AQ Khan said that only those could serve the humanity to whom Allah Almighty entrusts this responsibility.
Dr Qadeer Khan reached the venue of the function half an hour early setting a precedence of observance of timing.
