Pakistan, Russia set to sign $10b offshore pipeline deal next week

. . . .
This could be the biggest news- hope its not hot air- the promises look sound this time between Russia and Pakistan.

.
Has the week passed ? :lol::enjoy: All hot air and no substance as usual and poor pakistanis cheering over it.

. . .
Off-shore?

Where exactly is this gas coming from and where in the sea is the pipeline to be built IF the feasibility report actually comes with any juicy results.

I am skeptical.

. .
Hmm offshore? But russia is to the north. Would it not be better to link already made chinese xinjiang gas pipeline to connect to pakistan via kashgar and gilgit? Cuz the serbian mountains and temperatures that pipeline crosses in kazakhistan russia and china are way below the temperatures in sost humza gilgit region. Offshore? Does it go into arabian sea then persian gulf into iran and then into russia? It would habe helped if they included a map

IPI will pump iranian gas to pakistan then india.
This would pump russian gas to pakistan.
What's the difference between this pipeline and IPI pipeline?

They are planning to transport gas from Russian developed gas fields from Iran, these are essentially Iranian gas reserves which Gazprom has acquired. So the anticipated route may be from an onshore Iranian (NIOC) distribution facility (operated by Gazprom) to Persian Gulf to Arabian Sea to;
1) India (avoiding Pakistan's EEZ),
2) and a tie-in to Gwadar.
The initiative appears to address India's concerns by bypassing Pakistan land routes (which is essentially IPI project). It will be interesting to see how they are planning to bypass Pakistan's EEZ - this will be an expensive affair and likely not to bear any fruits, but Pakistan has nothing to loose. It's just a feasibility study which may or may not ever take off from design boards, but will bring Russia and Pakistan closer.

What's the difference between this pipeline and IPI pipeline?

1) IPI is a planned onhsore pipeline to transport Iranian operated gas to India through Pakistan land routes, the project is to be operated by NIOC (National Iranian Oil Company).
2) This appears to be a part of offshore Iran to India pipeline to transport Iranian gas operated by Gazprom, avoiding Pakistan's EEZ, and providing Pakistan a tie-in, in between. The project will be operated by Gazprom, independent of NIOC.

The title implies russia (gazprom)s signimg a 10 billion $ deal with pakistan. Not with india.

The title is wrong and is from an older report, this is what they signed yesterday;

https://tribune.com.pk/story/181296...deal-feasibility-study-10b-offshore-pipeline/

An MOU to conduct a feasibility, whose cost will be borne by Gazprom, to determine whether to lay an offshore pipeline, a $10B investment.
To my understanding, a simple tie-in to Pakistan, from Iran to India pipeline, might make a little sense, not a lot, but a little, on contrary to a stand-alone offshore pipeline to Pakistan, when we simply can construct a cheaper and way easier onshore pipeline.

An earlier report by IRNA, quotes Muhammad Faisal, our MOFA's spokesperson;

Muhammad Faisal while responding to a question posed by IRNA at his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday said that the proposal for construction of undersea gas pipeline has been under consideration since 2017.
The proposal involves Pakistan, Iran, Russia and India,” he said.

India, is there, but the role is not being highlighted.

This one u just linked also says deal is between pakistan and russia.

If they wanted to bypass pakistan they did a great job signing the deal with pakistan first. No trade with afghanstan central asia or iran is possible without pakistan and china.
