Pakistan, Russia ink agreement to build an offshore gas pipeline

But wouldn't the overland route to Pakistan be cheaper? Unless the goal is to get to India while avoiding Pakistan? And wouldn't that still be Iranian gas so how does Iran let two third party countries sign such a contract?

Well, you can post this query to Gazprom who is operating gas field or Iran who gave them gas field. Gazprom must be idiot to waste money on feasibility without considering basic points which you are raising, but we don't have to pay for their stupidity as we aren't sharing any feasibility cost.

It's okay. As I said above, I am content to wait and watch what, if anything, becomes of this project. No rush. :D

Nobody is in rush, Agreement is just for feasibility study at this stage. feasibility study is done before actual project for reason.

Russia, which controls and manages huge gas reserves in energy-rich Iran, plans to export gas by laying an offshore pipeline through Gwadar Port to Pakistan.

Pakistan, Russia ink MoU for gas pipeline feasibility study
Inter-State Gas Systems (ISGS) and Gazprom on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct a joint feasibility study regarding gas supplies from the Middle East to South Asian countries, according to a press release issued by the Russian energy giant.

The MoU was inked by ISGS Managing Director Mubeen Saulat and Gazprom board member Vitaly Markelov during a meeting between a Russian delegation and Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan.

The agreement penned on Wednesday was a follow-up to the one signed by the two countries in September 2018 for a planned offshore gas pipeline.

“Both countries have concluded various proposals in the energy sector, including construction of North-South Gas Pipeline, import of LNG from Russia, installation of air mix plant and establishing a 600MW combined cycle power plant,” Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal had said regarding the MoU when it was finalised in June 2018.

The project, which has been under discussion since 2017, would eventually involve four countries — Pakistan, Iran, Russia and India.

So wouldn't completing the IP pipeline make more sense via the land connection through Baluchistan, unless someone has created a sea in the middle that I may have missed?
Do you hate Russia for America's sake?

But wouldn't the overland route to Pakistan be cheaper?
Why is it bad to have good relations with Russia?

you are telling pakistan is not the end customer

Fantastic news congrats to Pakistan-Russia cooperation
We need Gas to heat homes and reduce burden on Local reserves

this would be fine except i do not think pakistan is the end customer nor is the gas being extracted from pakistan

It look like This PL will go to India as well...………. I am all in for this …… Gas from Iran , seller Russia , buyer India and Pakistan...….. Pakistan get extra(royalty) as well. And avoiding land will safe this project from many international and local hazards and India can feel extra safe about this pipeline …

Pakistan will import some 500 million to 1 billion cubic foot of gas every day from Russia, which would be transported via sea link, the agreement says. The pipeline construction is expected to be completed in three to four years.

There is no sea between Russian Federation and Pakistan. Unless they are talking about the Gas fields Russia owe within Iranian territory and wants to sells the gas from there to Pakistan. But still why the sea? Just build overland pipeline from Iranian territory into Pakistan.

ever Seen Crimea on the map?
