BEIJING, July 4 (Gwadar Pro) - Pakistan's export of rice to China crossed $277.56 million in the first five months of FY21/22, up 9.73 percent year on year. Pakistan remained one of the major broken rice suppliers to China, according to the official data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC).
Badar uz Zaman, Commercial Counselor of the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing, said that currently broken rice, especially IRRI-6, IRRI-9, and Semi or wholly milled rice are the main varieties of rice exported to China while Basmati and other top varieties still need to work hard to capture the Chinese market.
"Last Year, China imported 973,000 tons of rice worth $437 million from Pakistan. Seven new Pakistan rice exporters have been added to the approved list which has risen to 53 in 2021. China relaxed import restrictions on Pakistani rice which helped rice export to China", Badar mentioned.
He believes that within a few years Pakistan will become the largest rice exporter to China.
In the first five months, broken rice, commodity code (10064080), crossed about $42 million, an increase of nearly 865.26% as compared with last year, which was $4.32 million. Semi or wholly milled rice, commodity code (10063020), reached $132 million, according to GACC data received by Pakistan.
Badar Uz Zaman said that Pakistan is using traditional and especially social media platforms here to raise awareness about Pakistani rice in the Chinese market.

This is not a good thing right now...it will aid to the rising inflation in Pakistan.

How? Rice is not our staple diet. We produce 9-10 million tonnes of rice and we consume 3.5-3.8 million tonnes per year. How exactly is exporting 1 million tonnes will raise inflation? And if it does, reasons probably lie somewhere else.

Mash'Allah. good news.

China is a huge consumer market.

China has a population of 1.45 billion people.

The larger your population the larger your economy is.

. . .
Best case scenario would be Pakistan grows all the wheat it needs to feed its population so that it doesn't drain its foreign currency reserves, but since you have surplus rice may as well sell it abroad to earn currency that can then be used for whatever is needed. Alternatively you can sign a barter agreement with China (or any other nation with ample food reserves) where you exchange your surplus rice for wheat (or whatever staple food you need).

i hate all kind of food exports . unless you have surplus of last year . starving own people for dollars is crime against nations .

i almost break down when i was watching a documentory where most of COCOA FARMERS SAID WE HAVE NEVER TASTED FINAL PRODUCT CHOCOLATE IN OUR WHOLE LIVES .

.
The kind that doesn't want average Pakistani to die because they can't afford food, idiot.
there is always something in the market that is cheap...its just those so called ordinary people who wants to buy above their means!!!! pasand ki hiz chahiye to paise bharo! you have no idea how things works!

We need more Pakistani rice in the US, we see a lot of poor quality Indian Basmati which doesn't look or taste the same.

3.5 million tonnes consumption means per capita 15 kg. I think I don't eat more than 2 kg rice in a year.
And some posters are crying Pakistani bhokay mar gaye rice export ho gaya jaisay k ham rice par jee rahay hain

Exactly. I hardly eat rice once a week and that too only around 150g. We have surplus, why not export 'em.
