Ok so whats stopping from you fencing the border yourself ?

Do it and Bankrupt your country ? Why do you want the world to pick up the bill ?

After all when India did this with the IB, Loc in Kashmir and IB in the North East they did not ask for Aid did they ?

Israel also did it!

If pakistan feels they can do it just go ahead and do it no one will stop you but don't ask for money to do it from us.

Can someone post a map with possible line for the fence ?

What I understand is this.
Pakistan - Afghanistan have an international border. But parts along the international border are defined as "areas of influence" and people from both countries move about through this area of influence. Karzai is worried that he will lose his area of influence/lose territory if a fence is erected. Hence he is opposed to this move. Pakistan is worried that terrorists from Afghanistan will move into this area in case a fence is not erected.

Is there a possible dual fence solution to this problem that is acceptable to both Afghanistan and Pakistan ? Or is there a line along which Pakistan can build a fence such that Afghan Army will never reach it (no need of constant patrolling ?).

This is not a matter of few "areas of influence", this is a matter of considerable land currently part of Pakistan. Please look at the map and see if Pakistan accepts the Durand line, how much area Pakistan will lose.

Please do some research and find out what the Durand Line is all about !

Anyway if thats to tough just do a google search and type durand line + tribal loyalties. Just to help you, the tribes there donot care about the Durand Line, Pakistan or Afghanistan.

I hope you understand the situation there and stop asking to be spoon feed by doing some re-search.

Pak-Afghan border is International Borders and Pakistan has every right to build a fence on its side of the International Border, just like Afghanistan has every right to build a fence on its side of the International Border.

The only territory concerning Pakistan that is not International Borders is Line of Control which separates Pakistan's Azad Kashmir from Indian Occupied Kashmir, and the entire international community doesn't recognize Line of Control as International Borders but they do recognize the Pak-Afghan border as well as the Pak-Hind border, Pak-China border, and Pak-Iran border as International borders.

I'll accept that my knowledge of geography is pretty weak. My knowledge of Durand line is limited to internet and conversations with few Afghan-Americans and Pakistani people.But from actually having visited North-East of India and J&K I also understand that lines drawn on a map (in British times) are pretty much lines drawn on sand.

Hearing the opinion of someone who is actually in the region is very useful . It is sort of like LoC in Kashmir. India claims the whole of the state, but the fence is solidly within Indian territory, no where near the actual state border. Same goes for Pakistan - it claims the entire Kashmir, but cannot take away the fence since it is patrolled by Indian Army.

I was wondering where this sort of line might end up being drawn.If you do not care for my question, you are free to ignore it. I'll continue to read replies that gives me a better understanding of the issue, that's why I am here on this thread.

My dear it is me who is posting the maps, you think I did not know about it until today? This was something that had to be resolved when British were leaving the country. Now it is more than 60 years and if Afghans have some problem, they can always go to UN. Until than this issue is no issue.
