Pakistan rejects reports about obtaining French submarines

Islamabad, Aug.30 : Pakistan has rejected reports about purchase of submarines from France.

Briefing Senate's Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production, Defence Production Secretary, Israr Ghumman said an evaluation committee formed by the Naval Headquarters has recommended purchase of German submarines.

Ghumman clarified that the government has not inked any agreement with France regarding the purchase of submarines as was being reported in the media.

Senator Raja Zafarul Haq said the committee was informed that several foreign submarine manufacturing companies had put up their bid to provide submarines to the Pakistan Navy, but the German submarines were preferred by the Navy on the basis of their technological superiority and cost.

He said the committee is following the submarine purchase minutely.

"The committee was following the purchase of submarines and if anybody was found involved in receiving kickbacks he would be exposed to the media," The Dawn quoted Haq, as saying.

The committee also sought continuity of safeguards for the Pakistan Ordnance Factories, Heavy Mechanical Industries and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, which were authorized through the 17th Constitutional Amendment.

It's been a desire of the PPP government to abandon the purchase of the German subs in opposition of the Navy's recommendation.

Such reports are there... Even this accusation lends to that theory. This accusation must be kept under strict observance since I doubt the government is done playing tricks. It has huge kickback potential and you know who would try to milk it.

Establishment should have think about these things before signing deal with BB, Mushraf Bring back BB and then every thing went wrong So now if zardari is hare how he came to power just think about it?
I dont think that he will do some thing with This huge contract , But if German say no then what option U have French and French only

The germans cant say no. they have already agreed 95% with the deal.. german elections is not a concern for PN... just like F-16 deal.. we bloodily thought that only republicans will pass the deal and democrats will block it.. but we all turned wrong... even after so much objections in US congress Pak is still getting the deal done and not only that all most 300 million dollars were allocated to this deal from US AID.

Nothing new in this briefing because we all know that Navy under previouse chief recommended purchase of German subs now the point is whether the current government will go for it or will play more tricks to buy French ones.

There are concerns that may be the Germans would be forced to withdaraw on one or other pretext by the current set up.l

i do not know why people accuse me of being so pro US... i am just in favor of pakistan, anything that is the best... i also think out of this blind china love box that we are trying to live in.. i only care about the technology.... but yes you are right.. US has done alot of damages to pakistan but so have we to our self... at the end of the day it is still muslim suicide bombers killing innocent people in pakistan. this is off topic...
the f-16 and mirage-2000 have already been discussed to death.. PAF still thinks F-16 is the best option...
BTW PN has better awareness... they know if 95% of the deal is done then their is Hope... You think what you are saying PN doesnt know about it? why else would type-214 be selected if they knew they are not going to get it? they can not just spend millions in evaluations which is a time consuming process and then change the decision again because they just got rejected... PN has a better intelligent guess that politics is not going to be such a issue if they have come a long way to the final deal.
