Pakistan has rejected Afghanistan’s unsubstantiated allegation that Taliban reorganise in Pakistan during the winter period.
Speaking in a debate on the situation in Afghanistan in the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s acting permanent representative to the UN, Nabeel Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eliminate all terrorist networks.
He said, “Sanctuaries of terrorists have shifted to Afghanistan due to successful operation Zarb-e-Azb, the results of which are widely acknowledged by the international community.”
“The drivers of the recent upsurge in violence lie within Afghanistan, not outside,” he added.
The Ambassador said the presence of a large number of terrorist groups and organisations in ungoverned areas of Afghanistan present a continuing challenge to the long-term stability of Afghanistan and its neighbours.
He said peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan has yet to produce results, but that is not due to lack of efforts on Pakistan’s part.
Nabeel Munir said Pakistan is hosting millions of Afghan refugees and is committed to their return in honour and dignity.
