All the more reasons for Chabahar. If the cards are played rightly, this situation can be used to great advantage.
LOL, do you know how much surplus costs going from Chahabar can be? You think India is stupid that it hasn't seriously thought about it or the Iranians don't have 10-20 billion to build a port there if it was THAT important??? Think about these things before posting crap.
Pakistan, through Gawader isn't really looking at "global trade" at THIS time. Its ONLY trying to cater for the 350 million Chinese on the West side of China. The revenue, business and economic uplift generated through supporting such a large Chinese population alone will take Pakistan straight into the top 20 economies. Supporting West Chinese population and collecting revenue over it, is like you collected taxes from 1.5 times the Pakistani population, but didn't have to spend a dime in public welfare as that's not your citizens, can it get any sweeter than this??
Once the Pakistanis have the infrastructure ready to support 1.5 times additional population they'll be sending / receiving goods and services for, they'll then think about the world, the Central Asia, etc, etc. Supporting West China alone is more than enough to turn Pakistan into a modern, advanced and rich country.
India and Iran on the other hand need Chahabar primarily for Afghanistan, who's system, people and population isn't significant enough for such a large investment in many billions.
Plus the route from Chahabar to Afghanistani border is a lot more distance than cutting through Pakistan in like 15-20 hours by road. There is a reason someone said that Pakistan sits on the most strategic point on the world map.
It can connect 3 billion people together or it can keep them away!! Right here, is advise for India if she wants to do trade by road with the Chinese, the Central Russians and the Russia herself. Iran is too long, too costly and not so keen with this Chahabar crap, the main interest there is one Indian Navy's outpost near Pakistan, that's it.
India should join the trade route, finally start to realize War with Pakistan is a case almost similar to Earth collapsing into Sun one day. The Pakistan you knew till 2014, is not the same Pakistan going forward. You'll actually be dealing with a very assertive Pakistan going forward. See how they reacted to KSA's request for Yemen. That right there is how the future would be for Pakistan. It'll dictate its own terms and conditions within a few years as the economy grows. It is the 6th largest country and the 7th largest military, meaning it has the potential in the next few decade to also be a 7th or 10th largest economy. Imagine that. Being in top 20 economies is a game of 3 years. The real game is to get to the top 10, which there is strong potential that exists.
The history needs to be buried by signing a No War pact, then working towards creating an EU type of an block. 3 Billion people connecting through the road an within a few hours flight is a LOT of leverage, opportunity and business for everyone to make money off of. Why not work together with the Pakistanis and help each other?
