Pakistan ready for conventional war, says Gen Raheel

RAWALPINDI: Visiting the Sulemanki sector along the Working Boundary, army chief General Raheel Sharif said on Saturday that Pakistan Army was equally ready for conventional war.

“With an unprecedented level of successes in the war against terror, we have become the most battle-hardened army and are equally ready for conventional war,” he said, according to a statement issued the military’s media wing.

The army chief spent his day with Pakistan Army and Rangers troops and war veterans and specially appreciated the highest state of the troops’ morale and ‘the best form’ of vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary.

Interacting with the soldiers, Gen Raheel said Pakistan Army proudly carries its heritage and tradition of soldiering and chivalry. He said the army had always measured up to any challenge and taken inspiration from its war heroes and their spirit of sacrifice.

The army chief also laid a floral wreath at the monument of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider). He paid rich tributes to shuhada and ghazis for fighting bravely and rendering supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland.

Earlier, on arrival at Sulemanki, he was received by Corps Commander Lahore Lt Gen Sadiq Ali, Bahawalpur Corps Commander Lt Gen Javaid Iqbal and Punjab Rangers DG Maj Gen Umer Farooq Burki. [WITH ADDITIONAL INPUT FROM APP]

I am 100% sure that there isn't going to be any war, at least not from Indian side and i have reasons to believe so. Some of the posts are just naive. Modi is typical business-man, his track record proves as a typical gujju whose mantra is FDI through global-marketing. In his tenure, Gujarat's GDP rose 10 times in last 15 yrs. The people who supported him financially and morally are business tycoons who has a strong lobby in his govt. They would never allow govt. to go for an all out war because it would be detrimental to their business. Modi would never create unwanted burden on economy which is literally taking off@8% with GST next year and Industrial corridors in pipe-line. I am sure for next 10 yrs, he would chose either of two options as far as Pakistan is concerned 1. Neutral relations (neither sour nor sweet) means we learn to ignore each other 2. Good relations. He knows that if India could carry on for a decade without a war, we would be a $10 Triillion & 3rd largest economy by 2030. That would pull down curtains forever for any country to seek war with India as a political solution. On contrary, if a war happens now, it will set us back at least 5-10 yrs, Hence there is little meaning in assumptions above on India as war monger. Other side of the coin, Pakistan would see this decade as last window of opportunity. 10-15 yrs later, it would be too insignificant economically to challenge India on any platform. So my question to all Pakistani Brothers is... give me one reason why would India like to go for a war and Pakistan won't?

Well guys let's not turn the thread into another Raheel Shareef retirement thread. The topic is Pakistan's readiness for a conventional war. This statement comes at the right time when India is inching closer to a full fledge war, gross violations of human rights in Kashmir, false flag attacks, firing across the border and on LOC, false claims of sir jee kal "straiks", sponsoring of terrorism in Pakistan, then Indian sub trying to enter Pakistani waters, and then airspace violation through drone..etc

Something is definitely cooking and coming days will be critical...with upcoming change of military command in Pakistan, change of political command in USA have conicided...but I believe the institutions should be stronger than individuals. Let's wait and see

We may just witness a bigger conflict in disputed and northern areas before next Indian General Elections. A big false flag perhaps would trigger it. Current situation seems to be a build up.

(although a possible war in northern areas is not an allowed topic here for some reason!)

Guys although not directly relevantt but in case of full blown war logistics is key ...

Now good thatt a significant no. Of our system are of chinese origin so questions are

1. Will they keep the logisttic lines open in case of war ?
2. Will china step in ?

I also would like to invite comment what would be our strategy for change of army chief?

If i would be indian commander and need to invade Pakistan then ideal time would have been new army chief appointment ...

Our incompetent gov cares notthing but its own power and money ... They have not announced armychief hence handing over and taking over will be very short ... Although our armed forces are discplined but only army chief has hands on with all.round issues along with coordination with paf and pn ...

He would require atleast couple of months to take control of all the Divisions ...

So how are we prepared to address this risk ... It is like changing a commander in middle of low intensity war ...

You need to study about organisational structures, power is distributed across the channels. PA is not dependent on one person to act in a right way.

nothing is cooking. stop watching ary news. army chief will retire on his set date. nawaz will try his best to choose the one who suits him best and not the country. the new command will be tested . if he proved to be pro nawaz then may LOC violations by india may be reduced. if verdict of panama case goes in favor of nawaz then nothing can stop him and he will be having no resistance in becoming PM in next term (if pak survives that long). nawaz needs two things badly 1. pro nawa army chief 2. panama case verdict in his favor. and then he will be the ultimate king of pakistan. we have to admit despite all of his corruption and anti army propaganda raheel sharif acted like kiyani.
.
Raheel sharif's primary objective was to defeat terrorism, in which he is successful. In no way, he acted like Kiyani.
His objective was not to appease c**** like you and install IK in PM house. Hope you understand and mind your tongue next time.

@bold....Unfortunately, what u are saying is true... I had the highest respects for Gen Raheel Sharif, but if you see now....

1) Gen Raheel sharif also turned a blind eye to ruling party(PML n)'s corruption...just like Gen Kiyani turned a blind eye to PPP's corruption

2) Gen Raheel sharif also failed to act /punish someone on national security breach, dawn leaks, just like Gen Kiyani failed to punish anyone on memogate... In Gen kiyani's time, they were satisfied with Hussain Haqqanis resignation, and let him go to USA...where Hussain Haqqani is noy lobbying against Pakistan.... Now Gen Raheel Sharif is satisfied with Parvez Rasheed's resignation...and here they have not even blamed Parvez Rasheed, for security breach..but just for not stopping tht story to publish... They havent even accused him of being the source of tht story, and are still satisfied with his resignation....

So in the end result....Gen Kiyani and Gen Raheel both did mukmuka / NRO on national security breaches..which is very sad

1) RS is General, his job is protect Pakistan borders and defeat terrorism. For corruption related matters, you have to blame other institutions and if you have got any hard evidence go to the courts.

2) Its not RS job to punish someone, it's agencies job to identify and eliminate national security threats. He didn't do any muk muka, he was successful in his objective and legacy will continue.

Your criticism is unjustified and uncalled for

I was about to write the Exact same thing ..... ty for doing it better !

and for the sake of the Argument wants to know from @Farah Sohail & @litman to enlighten what exactly they were expecting Raheel shareef to do so .... Hang MNS on a chowk, Stage another Coup ... Plant a puppet govt ???

Thr is no correlation between change of military command in Pakistan, change of political command in USA ... the former is been known since the RS ascent and latter is the fix day since ever !

You guys are reading wayyy too much ... a war although inevitable is not on the immediate horizon ... not in Near future ... and surely not in coming month or two ... also a WAR is a huge Venture .... not something u do when One Single Remote Factor Fall into place .... ARMY is the only Organized institution of Pakistan... not based on Individuals .... and Handing Over surely take time but is been manged professionally .... it is not a One day event ... but a gradual process ! CALM DOWN !

He is a very Good General but never will be the last hope for Pakistan .. we should never rely on one person or General , there was a lesson to be learned from why Umar-Ibn-Khattab remove the Khalid bin Waleed from his position ..

"No war ...at least from Indian side"...what a hypocrite.. more than 100 LOC violations in recent months from India .... so who is firing on civilians from indian side?

no, at least push the govt to stay on the right track . news gate case should be taken to SC as it was described as national security breach even by patwaris. people like fazl ulllah, achakzae keep on speaking non sense about KPK, pakistan, fata and against army and intelligence and yet PM keeps them with him like a hen keeps her chicks under her wings. if the incidents like memogate, newsgate, panama leaks about the ruling PM, association of the govts (PPP, PML N, musharraf) with anti state parties like MQM would have surfaced in any country of the world millions would have marched on streets and made their leaders to resign.
pakistani ambassador in USA openly conspired against the armed forces of his own country and still he is enjoying his life in USA shows that there is no law in pakistan. we only wake up when the ultimate disaster happens like the one in 71 and after any disaster those who stay alive and well go to bed again and wait for the next one.
also expect zardari to come back to pakistan in next few weeks and you never know he will become the president again.

then what's the fun of cross border firing daily? sending drones in pak air space and subs closer to pak waters? only soldiers and civilians on both sides will suffer.

he is good but not even closer to khalid bin waleed. i think you have over rated him a lot or may be i have taken it wrongly.
but one thing is sure the islamic caliphate of the time of hazrat Umar is definitely not represented by pakistan today. we bow to every powerful country.

I agree ... an action or atleast a Practical statement should be made against almost all of the cases above .. but what matters is WHO .... u cannnot expect army to call these shots ... it is not in thr jurisdiction,

some required and have to be taken care of by Judiciary (Panama Gate),
Paramilitary and LEA are cracking down on Anti State outfits (Rangers against MQM & TTP in Karachi)
Army is handling its Part Zarb-e-Azb well
the people your are talking about are WE THE People .. not army cadets ..

Fazlullah, Achakzai, Altaf Hussain, and others are agree or not supported by alot of mental fanatics & require again a political solution .. killing the head of Hydra won't help !

As for PMLN ... Army didn't Vote for him .. people of Pakistan did ...

So again You are asking way to much from army who already have its hand full due to FATA, Afghanistan, LOC & India as well as espionage acts withing the national boundaries ..... also trying to indulge in the Political arena will stretch it too thin .... thr are lot of ideal things i can think of too .... but we also have to face and adjust to realities ... PTI was supposed to be a beacon of Hope (but IMO) they turned out to be clean shave jamat islami !

Shouldn't blame army for this and shouldn't compare RS with Kayani !

.
You need to study about organisational structures, power is distributed across the channels. PA is not dependent on one person to act in a right way.

What are you smooking man ... No matter how strong organiztaional structure is you cannot survive witbout leadership .. If you think that there will be no impact from change of leadership then you are living in wonderland ...

Brother yyou dont need to go far behind just go and check how the hell army has changed on transition from kayani to RS ... Although each unit in army can function independently but leadership has to give overall dorection vision and priorities ... New army chief is not fully aware of existing setup ...

Thr is no correlation between change of military command in Pakistan, change of political command in USA ... the former is been known since the RS ascent and latter is the fix day since ever !

I agree that no war is going on ... I am calm down and mature enough to understand that war is not a childs play but havent we procured weapons trained our soldiers for war ????

So when we strategized and train assumption is war scenario ... So i am making a hypothetical assumption ...

So what if india attacks ... You cant deny that india is continously testing our patience and strength ....
