Pakistan Reaches Out for Russian Arms

The reasons that come off of the top of my head for engaging with Russia would be that we could perhaps influence them not to support the seperatists in western Pakistan, come to an understanding that we do not pose a threat to each other and to actually join in alliance along w China that will be needed in the future against the US and Israel. Israel is a far greater threat to us than India, remember Ghandi was against Zionism but indians today are spurred on by racist zionists. Also, yeah we could definately use their engines.

<cough>Mig-35</cough>

Do it have any menaings?

Pakistan is a peaceloving state and fully expanding her global links through peace and horomeny, same goes to Russia, we had past problems but today world is changing and we dont need enemies, we need trade and good relations all around the world.

Mig-35s would be nice too.

Although Pakistan's mainly doing this to avoid a similar drama when it comes to purchasing the J-10s. Remember Putin had to make a special exception for reexport of the RD-93 to Pak. We are still not on the export-list for us to feel secured about the J-10.

You are mixing the things intentionally or inintentionally !

there was never a consent sought from Putin for RD 93, it was planned and expected to be, either cloned or original, the Hindu Fascist weight in world is not a secret as such Russia did not gave it a damn, they are intrested to expand their relations and want business.

Now Pakistan is providing them business and China as well, in such case the hungry mobs have no influance on international trade and relations.

Lol.................J10 is what you need to study more about, 36 of the brids would be at home in 2008, and there is not "hunger pressure" on China...........lol

What happens when Putin leaves? The next guy can be an ***... It just makes sense to get us onto that export list than to leave it for every Russian president to make a special exception.

I dont want to lecture here to teach kids about international relations, but the fact is that stratigic policies do not follow the persons, be it Pakistan or Russia, state policies are always consistant with national intrests it doesnt matter who is in power.

A simple example we have frequent change of power but our defence and neuclear programme continued, how? Because its establishment whcih decides about policy matters not Putin or Musharaf.

I would advise you to study some stuff on international and strategic relatiosn amongst the nations.

Hillary Clinton just last week went on record to call Bush a coward who is unable to pull out of Iraq. And she said when I become President I will pull out of Iraq.

Different parties, different agendas. Why are you just taking one nuke program as an example? We had an inhibited media during the reign of BB and NS and now we have a more free and progressive environment in Pak. We used to fight with India, we talk with India now. We hated on Israel, we want relations with them now.

Things change with leadership. If not then, leaders are just not 'leading'. Relations with Pakistan are definitely not so high up on Russian agenda as what the nuke program was to Pakistan's agenda.

Does this kid makes sense now?

I believe the day Indian pass over Putin's offer for nuclear reactors and move closer to uncle SAM.
uncle Putin will be more then happy to start to deal with Pakistan.
we should for starters get a 1000mw/reactor from Russia.i don't think Indians will be in any position to say other wise.

Pakistan aims for direct military cooperation with Russia
Tariq Iqbal | May 11, 2007, 22:31

Pakistan is interested in increasing military relationship with Russia and Pakistan Ministry of Defence is likely to make a decision on the purchase of the 10 Russian Mi-17 transport helicopters.

Pakistan is ready to renew direct military technical cooperation with Russia, to which India is opposed. India and Pakistan have fought three wars in the past, however in the last three years or so the relationship between the two countries have changed and Pakistan suggests that Russia renews direct military technical cooperation with Pakistan in order to enhance ties between the two countries.

America has opened doors for India to receive direct military technical cooperation in the defence field and Pakistan suggests that Russia as a global power do the same.

Since India is a long-time Russian strategic military-technical partner, Russia has limited its sales to Pakistan to multipurpose equipment. However, it is believed that Russia is in a disadvantage because India no longer have to rely on Russian equipment due to new access of military equipment from United States and parts of Europe.

After Cold War, Russia has supplied about 50 Mi-8 helicopters and its modernized version the Mi-17. Now Pakistan suggests direct military technical ties.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz commented that “Russia is a world power and we look at it as a global player. I suggest that global players should never make their relations with one country dependent on relations with another.”

The purchasing department of the Pakistani Defense Ministry will announce the results of a tender for the delivery of ten Mi-17 transport helicopters this month. The ministry wants only that model of helicopter, and insists that the provider have certification an original producer. Only OAO OPK Oboronprom in Ulan-Ude fits that bill. That company provided Pakistan with three of the same helicopters last year. A Pakistani delegation will visit that enterprise in the coming weeks, and see the Kazan Helicopter Plant and the Klimov Plant in St. Petersburg.

Pakistan can increase the purchasing of Russian military equipment as a result of direct military cooperation and signs are already there. Pakistan will soon need the access of AL-31FN engines equipped with the Chinese J-10 (also known as FC-20) aircraft which Pakistan plans to purchase in a deal worth up to $1.5 billion.

Last month, Beijing reached an agreement with Moscow of 150 RD-93 engines to Pakistan by China. That deal was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin personally and it is likely that China will buy 1000 more engines if the thrust of the engine is increased benefiting and taking the Russian defence industry to a new level.

Pakistan is playing it cool, no talk about giant purchases.

However under many noses, Pakistan is going for the acquisition of:

1) RD-93 engines for JF-17.
2) AL-31FN engines for FC-20.
3) IL-78 Midas in-flight refueling aircraft
4) Mi-17 helicopters

Would not be surprised if Shtora-1, BMP-3M and/or S-300PMU are sought later on.

Mark,

I thought we were acquiring IL-76 via Ukraine and then refuleing systems via two British companies which offered their deals @ IDEAS 2006.

Thats where I found the total price.

Yeah I know Wiki isn't a good source however, I was in search of the Price so I stumbled on the Wiki having a similar price to the one calculated.

It is easy to judge that the price will get there. The deal just doesn't include aircrafts alone. It also includes training, infrastructure, weapons, spares, etc..

I think 4 IL-78s are being procured from Ukraine, but Russian help could be used in raising infrastructure in Pakistan. The IL-78s will serve the JF-17s (and FC-20s later I assume) and the F-16s will use a different tanker.

IIRC the U.K company is providing the retractable refueling pod for JF-17.
